DALLAS, PA | Freshman goalkeeper Sam Richards (Elliott City, MD) recorded a career-high 11 saves in Farmingdale State's 1-0 loss to No. 8 ranked John Carroll in their first game at the Misericordia Cougar Classic on Saturday. The Rams dropped to 1-2 on the season, while the Blue Streaks improved to 2-1.

John Carroll recorded the game's first three shots, all of which were saved by Richards.

FSC had their first attempt in the 16th minute, but Alyse Rivera's (Manhattan, N.Y.) shot was turned away by the Blue Streaks keeper Madeline Martin.

JCU quickly drew a corner kick off their counter attack leading to the lone goal of the game. The corner fell into the box and was gathered by a John Carroll player. The first shot hit off an FSC defender and landed in front of the Blue Streaks' Meredith Coloian, who scored to the lower left of the net.

Farmingdale State had an attempt in the 30th minute when a corner led to a shot by senior midfielder Gracie Heilbrun (Parker, CO) that was saved.

John Carroll controlled play early in the second half, sending three shots on goal in the first 10:14.

The Rams broke through with a back-to-back shots in the 65th minute, before Richards held the Blue Streaks off the board with a pair of saves.

Rivera recorded one final shot on goal with 11:07 on the clock, but Martin made the stop as John Carroll went on for the 1-0 win.

Richards finished with seven saves in the final 45 minutes.

Farmingdale State is right back at tomorrow, Sunday, September 8th when they take on Shenandoah in their final match of the Cougar Classic at 1:00 p.m.
