Women's Soccer Drops Season Opener vs. Western New England

Western New England 2, Farmingdale State 1
DANBURY, Conn. | A goal by freshman midfielder Rachel McAuliff (Sayville, N.Y.) less than two minutes into her collegiate career was unable to hold up for the Farmingdale State College women's soccer team, which lost its season opener by a 2-1 final to Western New England University.

The neutral-site contest was played at Western Connecticut State University.

Just 1:54 into the contest, FSC junior Alyse Rivera received the ball on the left flank following a turnover by the Golden Bears, before providing a square pass to McAuliff. The freshman took two touches, before sending a 25-yard strike with her left foot into the top-left corner, giving the Rams an early advantage.

Western New England leveled the game 16 minutes before halftime on a long through ball, before tallying the game-winning goal in the 57th minute of play off a corner kick.

Junior keeper Kelsie Feingold (Commack, N.Y.) made three of her five saves in the second half for Farmingdale State, which returns to action in Danbury on Saturday afternoon when it takes on the University of Saint Joseph at 2.
