FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | On the heels of winning its fifth
Skyline Conference Presidents Cup, the Farmingdale State College Department of Athletics is proud to announce its 2023-24 year-end award winners, honoring student-athletes and teams for their efforts in the academic year.
The All-Farmingdale State Team highlights some of the top student-athlete performances in competition; the George LaRosa Leadership Award is given to one student-athlete annually; and the Academic Achievement Award is given to the team that earned the highest grade-point average this academic year.
All-Farmingdale State Team
As is an annual tradition, the athletics staff has selected its All-Farmingdale State Team. This year's outfit features 16Â student-athletes based on their accomplishments during the past academic year, who boast an array of accolades in their respective sports. Those student-athletes are showcased below, in alphabetical order:
Anthony Bileddo, Men's Soccer (Carle Place, N.Y.)
Bileddo was named Skyline Conference Offensive Player of the Year, First Team All-Conference and First Team All-ECAC after posting a career year with a team-best 13 goals, five assists and 31 points. His seven goals in Skyline competition tied for the lead in that category, while he finished the season ranked Nos. 37 and 38 nationally in points and goals per game, respectively.
Johnny Dougherty, Baseball (Kings Park, N.Y.)
Dougherty earned Skyline Conference and ECAC Pitcher of the Year honors, First Team All-Conference and First Team All-Region by both D3baseball.com and the ABCA. He is now a two-time all-region selection for FSC. The righty was the ace of the Rams pitching staff, striking out 65 batters and holding a 1.76 earned-run average in 62 innings on the mound. He ranked 10th in Division III in ERA.
Jenna Giliberti, Softball (Bellmore, N.Y.)
Giliberti, an NFCA All-Region first-team honoree and three-time first-team All-Skyline Conference selection, was named the conference's Co-Player of the Year. She hit .439 and was the conference leader with 26 stolen bases, 16 doubles and seven triples. Giliberti also finished second in the Skyline in hits (61), third in runs (48), fifth in OPS (1.139) and slugging percentage (.676) and sixth in RBI (33). She was named Academic All-District by College Sports Communicators for the second straight season for her efforts on the field and in the classroom.
Alycia Haynes, Women's Track & Field/Cross Country (Adams Center, N.Y.)
Haynes is a four-time Track Athlete of the Year winner, leading Farmingdale State to the title each season (2021-24). She is also a four-time All-Skyline Conference runner for cross country, including three times on the First Team. In addition, Haynes was named to the Skyline's 2023 Cross Country All-Sportsmanship Team. She will leave FSC with five top-10 all-time marks in outdoor and eight for indoor, including the school records for the 800m and mile run. Beyond her effort on the track, Haynes held the position of President of the Farmingdale State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Nick Hurowitz, Men's Basketball (Mount Sinai, N.Y.)
Hurowitz was named the Skyline Conference Player of the Year, NABC First Team All-American, District 3 Player of the Year and MBWA First Team and Player of the Year. He became just the third men's basketball All-American in school history, joining AJ Matthews and Damien Santana. Hurowitz led FSC to one of its most successful seasons in school history after averaging team-highs of 19.1 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. His 1,298 career points are the fifth-best mark in the FSC record books.
Mackenzie Kim, Men's Golf (East Quogue, N.Y.)
Kim, a 2022-23 Scholar All-American, was tabbed GCAA All-Region for the second consecutive season in 2024. He averaged a career-best 74.54 and has now earned First Team All-Conference honors in all three seasons with the Rams. Kim also fired a team-best 294 (+4) across four rounds at the NCAA Championship, leading FSC to a program-best 18th-place finish.
Jordan Lambert, Baseball (Plainview, N.Y.)
Lambert posted a career-year for Farmingdale State, highlighted by a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage. Lambert earned Second Team All-Skyline Conference, was a Player of the Year nominee and is a 2024 ABCA Division III Gold Glove candidate. Offensively, he recorded a .382 batting average and was the ninth toughest hitter to strikeout in Division III (26.2).
Carly Livingston, Women's Lacrosse (Farmingdale, N.Y.)
Livingston posted a record season for FSC, setting the program's single-season marks for goals (75) and points (120). She was named the Skyline Conference Offensive Player and Rookie of the Year, First Team All-Conference, the ECAC Rookie of the Year, and IWLCA Second Team All-Region. She led Farmingdale State to the Skyline Conference Championship and finished top-75 among the NCAA Division III rankings in the following categories: points (sixth); points per game (19th, 6.00); goals (23rd); assists (38th, 45); assists per game (48th, 2.37); and goals per game (66th, 3.75).
Nicholas Lourenco, Men's Track & Field (Bay Shore, N.Y.)
Lourenco became FSC's best-ever in the pole vault this year. He set the school record for both indoor and outdoor track & field in the pole vault and was victorious in 16-of-17 meets. The one exception was the 2024 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championship, where he placed 12th and earned Second Team All-American.
CJ Merritt, Men's Golf (Plainview, N.Y.)
Merritt earned GCAA All-Region honors in his freshman campaign after holding an average of 74.67 this season. He captured four victories in 2023-24, including the win at the Skyline Conference Championship in October. He shot a two-day total of 142 (-2) to earn Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and First Team All-Conference. Merritt's best round of the year came at the Tim Brown Invitational, where he shot a 67 (-4).
Corey Powell, Men's Basketball (Valley Stream, N.Y.)
Powell helped Farmingdale State to their second consecutive Skyline Conference Championship and first NCAA win since 2012, earning Defensive Player of the Year honors along the way. Powell, now a three-time all-conference choice, ranked third on the Rams in scoring (13.0 ppg) and rebounding (5.3 rpg) and routinely guarded the opposition's top perimeter threat. He became the first player in Skyline history to earn back-to-back Most Outstanding Player awards in the conference championship. In addition, Powell was tabbed as a Third Team All-Met selection.Â
Kalena Ricketts, Women's Volleyball (Cambria Heights, N.Y.)
Ricketts was named the 2023 Skyline Conference Co-Player of the Year, First Team All-Conference and Second Team All-ECAC after leading the conference in kills (4.19) and points (4.69) per set, ranking 14th and 20th in Division III, respectively. Her .239 hitting percentage ranked third in the Skyline, and she tied a school single-match record with 28 kills against the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Oct. 24. She garnered first-team All-Skyline accolades in all three of her seasons with the Rams, and her kills per set in 2023 are the program's single-season record.
Alan Sabovic, Men's Tennis (Bohemia, N.Y.)
Sabovic was voted as the Skyline's Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference after going 16-0 at the top-flight singles position and 14-3 in doubles competition. He is now a four-time All-Conference player, including first-team honors in the last three seasons. Sabovic led the Rams to its first-ever undefeated record heading into NCAA play this season.
Justin Silva, Men's Soccer (Bellerose, N.Y.)
Silva was named the Skyline Conference's Defensive Player of the Year, First Team All-Conference and Second Team All-ECAC in 2023 after helping the Rams to their best winning percentage (11-4-4 - .684) in program history. Now a three-time all-conference honoree (including two first-team awards), he ended his illustrious career at FSC with the program's career record for shutouts, registering 23 in four seasons.
Allie Stanya, Softball (Babylon, N.Y.)
Stanya earned First Team All-Skyline Conference honors and Second Team All-Region by NFCA in 2024. She went 17-4 in the circle for the Rams in her senior campaign, posting a 0.98 ERA that led the conference and ranked 12th nationally. She also held top-50 national rankings in shutouts (19th, 7), WHIP (26th, Skyline-best 0.88), hits allowed per seven innings (28th, 4.68), complete games (30th, Skyline-best 18), wins (30th, conference-best 17), strikeouts (32nd, 151), and strikeouts per seven innings (42nd, 7.8).
Thomas Stock, Men's Lacrosse (Selden, N.Y.)
Stock was the Skyline Conference Offensive Player of the Year, leading FSC to its first-ever Skyline title. He earned First Team All-Conference and a spot in the prestigious USILA North/South Senior All-Star Game. This season, he became the program's career leader in both goals (148) and points (232). His 101 points in 2024 marked a single-season record, as he registered 66 goals and 35 assists on the campaign. One of just two players (Wandle) to record 200-plus points in a FSC uniform, Stock ranked 28th in Division III this season in both goals (3.30) and points (5.05) per game.
George LaRosa Leadership Award
Farmingdale State College senior Corey Powell (Valley Stream, N.Y.) has been selected as the 2023-24 winner of the George LaRosa Leadership Award.
The winner of this annual award exemplifies great leadership qualities for their team, both on and off the playing fields. The LaRosa Leadership Award winner demonstrates integrity, inspiration and humility, and represents what it truly means to be a student-athlete at Farmingdale State College.
In addition to all of his accolades on the floor, Powell has been a leader within his team and for the FSC Department of Athletics since arriving in 2019.
Powell has held positions within SAAC and represented the College flawlessly through countless media channels, including News12, Newsday, Long Island Patch and the Skyline's Bulletin Podcast.
He assists with Katie's Run, an event organized by the Katie McBride Foundation, to raise funds for the Ronald McDonald House and honor the memory of childhood leukemia victims.
Powell has also been the first to represent the department with the transition in the Skyline Conference Commissioner position, helping honor Linda Bruno and welcoming in current Skyline Commissioner Melissa Reilly. He has assisted the College in its selection of a new President, sitting in meetings with the candidates as a student advisor. Powell also represented the FSC student-athletes in the Athletics Advisory Board meetings.
"Corey embodies everything the George LaRosa Leadership Award stands for," said Head Coach Brendan Twomey. "His leadership to the program, his teammates and the entire athletics department are unmatched. Corey's work ethic and ability to lead by example has elevated our team to a new level over the last five years. He is not just a player; he's a true ambassador for our program and the school as a whole."
Academic Achievement Award
The National Collegiate Athletic Association's (NCAA) Division III Philosophy Statement says that the academic performance of its student-athletes should be, "at a minimum, consistent with that of the general student body." As such, it is with great pride that the department announces that 14Â of the 18 FSC teams registered a combined 3.0-plus grade-point average on the 4.0 scale during the 2023-24 academic year.Â
The team with the highest GPA, and earning the Academic Achievement Award is the Men's Tennis team, which compiled a remarkable 3.45Â grade-point average.
