ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. | The most successful season in the NCAA history of the Farmingdale State College men's lacrosse team came to an end Wednesday afternoon in the opening round of the 2024 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship, as the Rams fell to host St. Mary's College of Maryland, 16-8.
FSC finishes the 2024 season with a 16-4 record, marking the team's most wins in the NCAA era, and advanced to the national tournament for the first time in program history. The Rams have now won double-digit games in the last three campaigns, and in each of the last seven full seasons.
The Seahawks (14-6) now advance to Saturday's second round, where they will travel to Troy, N.Y., to play at second-ranked Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
St. Mary's scored the first six goals of the game, before senior attackman and Skyline Conference Offensive Player of the Year,
Thomas Stock (Selden, N.Y.) netted for FSC with 24 seconds to go in the first period.
After junior midfielder
Tyler Kollar (Bellport, N.Y.) notched his 34th goal of the season 3:58 into the second quarter off a pass from senior
Tanner Longo (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.), the Seahawks registered a five-goal run to open a 10-2 advantage. Kollar's second tally of the afternoon came 2:07 before the halftime break, bringing the visitors to within seven.
Senior attack
Rob Varello (Smithtown, N.Y.) netted a goal at the 5:46 mark of the third period on a transition assist from sophomore defender
Liam McGroarty (Northport, N.Y.), before FSC notched a four-goal fourth period. Varello set up freshman Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year
Adam Giovinco (Syosset, N.Y.) at the 11:10 mark, before Stock assisted on a score by Kollar just 12 seconds later. Giovinco's 57th of the season came with 2:31 on the clock, while Stock notched his 66th of the campaign 95 seconds before the final whistle.
Kollar finished with a team-high four points on a hat trick and one assist, while Stock wrapped up his illustrious Farmingdale State career with three points (2g, a) to finish with school records for goals (148) and points (232). Senior face-off specialist
Antonio Kaminskey (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) went 13-of-28 at the midfield "x" with six ground balls, with freshman long-stick midfielder
Sean Lawson (Mattituck, N.Y.) scooping four ground balls and registering one takeaway on the defensive end of the field. Senior netminder
Dan Erler (Smithtown, N.Y.) made eight saves in the Rams' cage.
