FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The 1977 Farmingdale State College men's lacrosse team, which won the NJCAA national championship, will be honored at the
2024 Farmingdale State College Golf Classic on June 3 (Mon.) at The Vineyards Golf & Country Club in Riverhead, N.Y. This year's Classic is being presented by Vinny Naab, a 1978 alumnus who played on the title-winning squad for legendary head coach and FSC Athletics Hall of Fame member, Fred Acee.
The 1977 Farmingdale men's lacrosse team won the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Championship, for the first-ever National Title in school history. The Rams defeated local rival Nassau Community College in the championship game by a score of 11-8.Â
The title was the first of three (1977, 1981, 1987) won by the Farmingdale men's lacrosse team. The 1977 championship team had four student-athletes named NJCAA All-Americans. Brooks Sweet and Michael Voucas earned First-Team honors, while Bob and John Sullivan were named to the Second Team. John Sullivan was also named the Most Valuable Player of the National Championship game. Seven members were selected to the All-Tournament Team including Sweet, Voucas, Bob Sullivan, John Sullivan, Naab, Steve Incarnato and Marty Whipple. Head Coach Fred Acee was at the helm for each of Farmingdale's three National Championship victories. Coach Acee, John Sullivan, Sweet and Voucas are each members of the Farmingdale State College Athletics Hall of Fame for their accomplishments on and off the field.Â
