FARMINGDALE, N.Y. |Â The Farmingdale State softball team swept past non-conference opponent Baruch College in a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon. The Rams earned a 5-0 victory in the first game before picking up a 7-0 win in game two. FSC extended their winning streak to 14 straight games and now holds an overall record of 23-7.
Game 1
Game one was scoreless heading into the bottom of the third before the Rams recorded three unearned runs. Sturtz reached on an error before scoring two batters later on a fielder's choice by senior right fielder
Jenna Giliberti (Bellmore, N.Y.). After Giliberti stole third base, a sacrifice bunt by freshman third baseman
Bailey Hammock (Port Jervis, N.Y.) put FSC in front, 2-0. Hammock followed with a steal of second and scored on an RBI single by sophomore designated player
Samantha Stolfi (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) to take the 3-0 advantage.
After a scoreless fourth inning, Hammock drew a one-out walk in the bottom of the fifth and scored on a Stolfi groundout to go up, 4-0.
FSC's final run came in the sixth when freshman catcher
Anna Rahner (Islip, N.Y.) doubled to lead off the inning and scored on a single by freshman center fielder
Ashley Toro (Islip, N.Y.).
SeniorÂ
Allie Stanya (Babylon, N.Y. - W, 13-2, 7.0 IP, 10 SO) earned her fourth consecutive victory, tossing a complete game shutout and striking out 10. She has allowed just two earned runs in her last five appearances and lowered her ERA to 1.26 on the season.
Toro finished 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Stolfi had a hit and two runs batted in. Hammock scored two runs and dove in one and Giliberti registered a double with one run scored.
Game 2
In game two, junior pitcher
Ava Shorr (North Babylon, N.Y. - W, 9-5, 7.0 IP, 9 SO) fired seven shutout innings with nine strikeouts to lead FSC to the win. Baruch (10-13) had one hit in the game, which came with one out in the seventh. Shorr has now won five straight decisions and lowered her ERA to 1.79.
The Rams took the lead in the third inning after Toro singled and scored on a double by freshman first basemanÂ
Madison Sturtz (East Islip, N.Y.).
Farmingdale State increased their lead to 6-0 with a five-run bottom of the fourth. A walk and two singles loaded the bases with no one out before a pair of RBI groundouts by Rahner and Toro put FSC in front, 3-0. With two outs, freshman left fielder
Isabella Marchini (Hicksville, N.Y.) and Giliberti recorded run-scoring singles, while Sturtz registered an RBI triple to give the Rams a commanding 6-0 advantage.
Farmingdale State added a run in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Giliberti as they went on for the 7-0 victory.
Sturtz led the way offensively with three hits, including a double and a triple, and two RBI's. Toro tallied a hit and three runs scored, while senior shortstop
Angelina Capuano (Sayville, N.Y.) had a hit, walk and one run scored. All nine batters for FSC had at least one hit in the contest.
The softball team next plays host to St. Joseph's-Brooklyn for a Skyline Conference doubleheader on Saturday, April 27th at noon.
