Men's Soccer Falls in Overtime of Skyline Semifinal at Manhattanville

2024 Skyline Conference Men's Soccer Championship - Semifinal
(2) Manhattanville - 2, (6) Farmingdale State - 1 (F/OT)
PURCHASE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College men's soccer team saw their season come to an end Wednesday evening, falling to second-seeded Manhattanville University, 2-1, in overtime of the 2024 Skyline Conference Men's Soccer Championship Semifinal. The sixth-seeded Rams finish with a 9-9-3 overall record, while the Valiants (12-7-1) have advanced to the Skyline Championship Final for the second consecutive year.

The match remained scoreless into the second half after FSC junior goalkeeper Rocco Dispinseri (Dix Hills, N.Y.) stopped five MVL shots throughout the first 45 minutes.

After trading chances in the first 20 minutes of the second half, Farmingdale State opened the scoring as freshman forward Jean Mejia (Freeport, N.Y.) tallied his team-leading 11th goal of the year. Senior defender Daniel Rivas (Westbury, N.Y.) escaped a pair of Manhattanville defenders and dished off to sophomore Jose Mejia (Guatemala City, Guatemala), who sent a long pass up the sideline for Jean to gather, score and put the Rams ahead, 1-0.

The Valiants countered with five unanswered shots before registering the equalizer with 7:58 showing on the clock. Following a blocked shot, Alec Pineda scored on a header just inside the left post to knot the match at 1-1.

MVL nearly scored again in the closing minutes, attempting four shots — including one off the crossbar, but the game headed into overtime tied at 1-1.

Just 3:46 into OT, a Farmingdale State foul in the box set up a penalty kick for the Valiants. Jostyn Blanco stepped up to take the kick for Manhattanville and buried it to secure the 2-1 semifinal victory.

Dispinseri produced eight saves in net for FSC, while Luis Granados finished with four saves for MVL.

Manhattanville has advanced to the Skyline Final and will travel to top-seeded St. Joseph's-Long Island for the Championship on Saturday.
