Farmingdale State - 2; St. Joseph's University-Long Island - 0
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | Senior
Celina Schenk (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) scored one goal and added an assist Saturday afternoon, as the Farmingdale State College women's soccer team defeated visiting St. Joseph's University Long Island, 2-0.
The Rams (4-4-2, 3-0-1 Skyline) opened the account just under 11 minutes into play, when sophomore
Alyse Rivera (Manhattan, N.Y.) played Schenk into the top-middle of the penalty area after a deflection. Schenk one-touched her shot into the top-right corner of the net for her fifth goal of the campaign, giving the hosts a 1-0 edge over the Golden Eagles (5-3, 3-1).
Schenk then set up FSC's second goal less than four minutes before halftime, when her 35-yard free kick from the right flank forced a save at the top of the net from the St. Joseph's keeper. With the rebound bouncing along the goal line, freshman
Stephanie Alberghine (Medford, N.Y.) touched home her second goal of the season to double the home side's advantage before the interval.
Head coach Chris Roche's Farmingdale State side wraps up its back-to-back weekend on the road Sunday (Oct. 1), when it travels to Reading, Pa., for a 2 p.m. kickoff at Penn State University-Berks.
