PURCHASE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College women's tennis team opened its 2023 fall season in resounding fashion Sunday afternoon, as the Rams captured an 8-1 decision over Skyline Conference opponent and host Yeshiva University.
The visiting Rams (1-0, 1-0 Skyline) swept through all three doubles matches, including an 8-0 sweep at the top flight by junior
Lien Collings (Merrick, N.Y.) and sophomore
Amanda Jones (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) versus the Macs' (0-2, 0-1) Liana Friedman and Anna Laufer. The second-flight tandem of freshman
Natalia Furchel (Manorville, N.Y.) and sophomore
MacKenzie Gisler (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) downed Micah Mamoun and Shira Adler by an 8-4 count, with sophomores
Gabriella Loria (Levittown, N.Y.) and
Mikayla DeMaria (W. Babylon, N.Y.) emerging victorious by the same 8-4 score at No. 3, versus Sarah Liederman and Sarah Grunseid.
Collings used a first-set, 7-1 tiebreaker decision at the No. 1 singles slot to push to a straight sets (7-6, 6-0) victory against Adler, with Furchel taking down Friedman by a 6-1, 6-0 margin at the second flight. Jones (6-4, 6-1 vs. Liederman), Gisler (6-0, 6-1 vs. Mamoun) and Loria (identical 6-1 scores, against Laufer) captured wins at the Nos. 3-through-5 slots, respectively.
Next up for coach Adam Waterhouse's FSC side is a Saturday (Sept. 9) home match against Pratt Institute, with first serve slated for 1 p.m.Â
