Men's Soccer Captures Skyline Victory vs. Mount Saint Mary

Farmingdale State - 4; Mount Saint Mary - 1
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | Led by a three-goal first half, the Farmingdale State College men's soccer team remained undefeated in Skyline Conference play, defeating visiting Mount Saint Mary College on Wednesday night by a 4-1 final.

The Rams (4-2-2, 2-0-1 Skyline) received two goals from freshman midfielder Jose Gil Mejia (Guatemala City, Guatemala), as well as three assists from junior striker and reigning Skyline Conference Offensive Player of the Week, Anthony Bileddo (Carle Place, N.Y.) to send the hosts to a 3-0 halftime edge over the Knights (0-7-2, 0-2-2). Sixteen minutes in, senior midfielder Rafael Castro (Cartagena, Colombia) played Bileddo into the right side of the penalty area alone. Bileddo then played an unselfish cross to Gil Mejia at the left-hand post, as the freshman tapped home into an empty net to open the scoring.

Bileddo then collected a turnover by MSMC 30 yards from goal in the 29th minute of play, and again played Gil Mejia towards the left-hand post for the rookie's third goal in the last four days to double FSC's advantage.

Just 95 seconds later, Castro was played in down the middle of the field after a nifty pair of passes from Bileddo and Gil Mejia, whose touch sent the winger off to the races. Castro netted to the low-left side for his second goal in as many outings, giving Farmingdale State a 3-0 lead.

Mount Saint Mary pulled a goal back 62 minutes in, when Marco Mazzarelli's 14-yard shot in the left side of the box bounced in after deflection off FSC senior keeper Justin Silva (Bellerose, N.Y.) to cut the Knights' deficit to 3-1.

Farmingdale State restored its three-goal edge 11 minutes from the final whistle, when senior winger Michael Lanouette (Hamden, Conn.) fed sophomore speedster Tyree Baskin Jr. (Freeport, N.Y.) at the penalty spot, who then tucked his shot under the left side of the crossbar to place the hosts in front, 4-1.

Silva made four saves on the night in the victorious effort, while his Knights counterpart, Caesar Martinez, turned aside four FSC shots.

Head coach Chuck Schimpf's side is back in conference action at home on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 30), when Farmingdale State plays host to SUNY Old Westbury at 2 p.m. as part of the Rams' Homecoming festivities.
