Women's Soccer Narrowly Falls to Springfield

Springfield - 2; Farmingdale State - 1
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | Senior Celina Schenk (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) tallied her second goal of the season Sunday afternoon, as the Farmingdale State College women's soccer team wrapped up play in the Rams Classic with a 2-1 setback against visiting Springfield College.

The Rams opened the scoring less than four minutes in, with a right-flank combination play setting things up. Sophomore Alexandra Coloma (Seaford, N.Y.) picked up possession 35 yards from goal, and sent classmate Alyse Rivera (Manhattan, N.Y.) in down the sideline. Rivera's low cross with pace found a sliding Schenk four yards inside the penalty spot, with the captain netting her second goal of the campaign to put the hosts in front early.

Kayla McGrath leveled for the Pride just over nine minutes later, finishing a pass from Kaitlyn Suller from 12 yards away to knot the affair at 1-all.

SC went took the lead 36 minutes into play, as Natalya Pennant converted a feed from Nicole Sweeney to put Springfield ahead by a 2-1 margin.

The final minute of play saw the Rams apply pressure in an attempt to tie things up, with Schenk rattling a 30-yard free kick off the top-left corner of the crossbar before freshman midfielder Stephanie Alberghine (Medford, N.Y.) saw her rebound attempt at the six-yard box cleared off the line by the Pride defense.

Farmingdale State sophomore keeper Kelsie Feingold (Commack, N.Y.) registered 10 saves for the hosts.

The Rams are back in action Saturday (Sept. 16), when they travel to Center Valley, Pa., for a noon kickoff at DeSales University.
