Women's Soccer Battles vs. Salisbury in Non-Conference Play

Salisbury - 1; Farmingdale State - 0
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | In a contest where each team took six shots on the afternoon, it was an 82nd-minute effort from visiting Salisbury University that sent the Sea Gulls past the Farmingdale State College women's soccer team by a 1-0 final.

SU (8-4-1) netted the breakthrough marker just over eight minutes before the final horn, when Ava Wheeler got to a loose ball at the six-yard box off a feed from Alex Jankowski and tallied into the lower-right corner for the match's final goal.

FSC (4-7-2) nearly had the opening goal of the match in the 73rd minute of play, but the play was whistled for offsides. The Rams, who held a 4-0 edge in corner kicks on the afternoon, received two shots (both on target) from junior midfielder Mikayla Spiering (Parker, Colo.). Sophomore keeper Gabby Pinero (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) made three of her four saves in the second half of action.

Head coach Chris Roche's side is back into Skyline Conference play on Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 10), when Farmingdale State travels to SUNY Old Westbury for a 4:30 p.m. kickoff.
