Women's Soccer Clinches #2 Seed for Playoffs with Win Over Purchase

Farmingdale State - 8, Purchase - 0
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State women's soccer team hosted Purchase College on Thursday evening and earned an 8-0 victory. FSC finishes the regular season with a record of 8-2-1 in Skyline Conference play and has clinched the #2 seed for the upcoming playoffs.

Farmingdale State started quick as they scored just 16 seconds into the contest. Freshman forward Stephanie Alberghine (Medford, N.Y.) received a perfect cross from senior forward Celina Schenk (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and buried the goal to go ahead 1-0.

The Rams doubled their lead in the 21st minute after sophomore midfielder Sydney Kranick (Murrysville, PA) gathered a deflected ball and passed to Schenk for the score.

Just 2:26 later, Alberghine tallied her second goal of the game, unassisted, to put Farmingdale State in front, 3-0.

With 11:04 on the clock, freshman forward Julia Rebich (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) tallied the first goal of her collegiate career, from freshman defender Esmeralda Merlos (Lindenhurst, N.Y.), to take a 4-0 advantage.

The Rams final goal of the half came with 1:46 to play as sophomore defender Alexandra Coloma (Seaford, N.Y.) set up junior forward Shirley Hernandez (Long Beach, N.Y.) for a score to go in front, 5-0.

FSC held a 20-3 shot advantage through the first 45 minutes.

Only 5:36 after the halftime break, Farmingdale State went up by six after sophomore defender Gracie Heilbrun (Parker, CO) assisted on a goal by freshman midfielder Taylor Boes (Holbrook, N.Y.).

In the final 20 minutes, the Rams added unassisted goals by freshman defenders Katelyn Armstrong (Pembroke, NH) and Ava Comstock (Shirley, N.Y.) as they went on for the 8-0 win.

Sophomore goalkeepers Kelsie Feingold (Commack, N.Y.) (two saves) and Gabby Pinero (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) split time in net to combine for the shutout victory.

Farmingdale State has earned a bye for the First Round of the Skyline Conference Championship and will next host the Semifinals on Wednesday, November 1st. The Rams await the winner of #3 / #6 first round matchup. Stay tuned to farmingdalesports.com for updates and ticketing information.
