Women's Soccer Falls in Skyline Semifinal to Mount Saint Vincent

2023 Skyline Conference Women's Soccer Championship - Semifinal
(3) Mount Saint Vincent - 4; (2) Farmingdale State - 0
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | Third-seeded College of Mount Saint Vincent received a second-half brace from Caitlyn Thompson on Wednesday night, as the Dolphins captured a 4-0 victory in the semifinal round of the 2023 Skyline Conference Women's Soccer Championship over second-seeded host Farmingdale State College.

MSV (12-5-3) will play host to fifth-seeded U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, winners by a 2-1 margin over top-seeded Sarah Lawrence College in the other semifinal, in Saturday's championship final.

FSC (9-9-2) provided the first quality scoring chance of the match 13 minutes into play, when senior Celina Schenk's (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) right-side cross across the penalty area found junior Mikayla Spiering (Parker, Colo.). However, Spiering's back-post effort was caught by MSV keeper Javiera Sanchez to keep the contest scoreless.

The visitors got on the board 11 minutes later, as Brittany Boyle was played in alone in the middle of the penalty area. After Rams sophomore keeper Kelsie Feingold (Commack, N.Y.) made an initial save, Boyle finished off her own rebound into an empty net to give Mount Saint Vincent a 1-0 edge.

FSC nearly leveled off a corner kick in the 29th minute of action, when junior Maddy Berry's (Glen Head, N.Y.) header towards the lower-right corner forced a diving save by Sanchez.

Less than 90 seconds into the second half, Thompson doubled the Mount Saint Vincent advantage when she converted a penalty kick. Alicia Rodriguez added her 11th goal in the 71st minute, before Thompson's second tally of the night and 14th of the season came less than 10 minutes before the final whistle.

MSV outshot the Rams 17-11 on the evening, including a 10-5 edge in the final stanza, while FSC held a 3-2 margin in corner kicks and received an eight-save showing from Feingold.
