FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State women's soccer team defeated Skyline Conference opponent Mount Saint Vincent, 3-1, on Saturday in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams improved to 7-8-2 overall and 6-2-1 in the Skyline, while the Dolphins dropped their first Conference match and are now 10-5-2, 7-1-2.
Only four minutes into the game, FSC drew a corner kick and thought they went up on a goal by senior forward
Celina Schenk (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.), however, it was called offsides.
Just 19 seconds later, Schenk gathered a loose ball and sent a shot from 25 yards out that went over the head of the goalkeeper to give Farmingdale State a 1-0 edge.
The Rams extended the lead in the 20th minute after Schenk and sophomore defender
Gracie Heilbrun (Parker, CO) assisted on a goal by junior midfielder
Mikayla Spiering (Parker, CO) to go up, 2-0.
Farmingdale State took the 2-0 lead into the break as they held Mount Saint Vincent to just two shots on goal in the first 45 minutes.
The FSC defense allowed just two shots over the first 20 minutes of the second half, with sophomore goalkeeper
Gabby Pinero (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) stopping both.
With 24:01 to play, the Rams drew a foul to earn a free-kick. On the kick, Farmingdale State was fouled in the box to earn a penalty shot. Sophomore forward
Alyse Rivera (Manhattan, N.Y.) stepped up and buried the goal to put the Rams on top, 3-0.
Mount Saint Vincent tallied a penalty-kick goal down the stretch, but FSC went on for the 3-1 Skyline victory.
Pinero finished with a career-high seven saves to earn the win in net.Â
Farmingdale State will next host Skyline Conference opponent Maritime on Tuesday, October 24th at 6:00 p.m. on Senior Night.
