Farmingdale State - 1; Manhattanville - 0
PURCHASE, N.Y. | Backed by a ninth-minute goal from sophomore defender
Gracie Heilbrun (Parker, Colo.) and a seven-save effort from sophomore keeper
Hailey Stork (No. Bellmore, N.Y.) in her Rams debut, the Farmingdale State College women's soccer team picked up an important 1-0 victory on the road Wednesday night in Skyline Conference action at Manhattanville College.
Heilbrun's first goal in a FSC (6-8-2, 5-2-1 Skyline) uniform provided the only tally in the match early on, when sophomore
Alyse Rivera's (Manhattan, N.Y.) 20-yard free kick bounced off the left side of the Valiants' (6-5-3, 3-3-3 Skyline) and towards the center of the goal box, where Heilbrun tapped home to provide a lead the Rams would never relinquish.Â
Stork made five of her seven stops in the opening half, and came up big with back-to-back saves in the 69th minute of action to help preserve the clean sheet behind a starting back line of senior
Michaela Rapisarda (Deer Park, N.Y.), and juniors
Alexxis McNeil (Valley Stream, N.Y.),
Maddy Berry (Glen Head, N.Y.) and
Nicole Celeste (Farmingdale, N.Y.).
FSC outshot Manhattanville 18-13 on the day, with the hosts holding advantages in shots on target (7-4) and corner kicks (5-1).
Head coach Chris Roche's Rams are back in Skyline Conference action at home on Saturday, when they play host to College of Mount Saint Vincent in a noon kickoff.
