Knights Hold on for Conference Win

Mount Saint Mary College - 49, Farmingdale State - 45


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team fell 49-45 today to conference rival Mount Saint Mary College (18-2, 14-0). The Rams now stand at 14-6 overall, 10-3 in the Skyline.

Farmingdale trailed by 13 with 6:56 left in the first, but used an 8-1 run to cut the deficit to six points, 22-16 at halftime. In the second, both teams traded baskets early in the half before a 6-0 run gave the Rams their first lead of the game, 35-34, with 9:41 remaining on the clock. The Knights took back the lead on a pair of free throws and would push the lead back up to six, 44-38, with four minutes left. Farmingdale hit a three for the 44-41 score, but could not complete the comeback.

Junior guard Kayla Koch (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) led the Rams with 15 points and nine rebounds. Junior forward Keona Jones (Brooklyn, N.Y./Grand Street Campus) grabbed seven rebounds, six points and two blocks.

For Mount Saint Mary, senior forward Jess Tice (Altamont, N.Y./Guilderland) grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds, 13 points and blocked six shots. Sophomore guard Charneice McCullough (Wyandanch, N.Y./Wyandanch) finished with 13 points and four steals. Sophomore forward Kate Hartnett (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park) had 11 rebounds.

Farmingdale will host Old Westbury for another Skyline game on Tuesday, February 8th at 6:00 p.m.
