Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State
women's soccer team won their third consecutive Skyline Conference
Championship this afternoon, defeating Bard 1-0 in the Skyline
Finals. Freshman forward Jamie Smith (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East)
scored on a corner kick that deflected off the inside of the far
post late in the second half.
Farmingdale controlled the game throughout, holding a 21-2 shot
advantage, while also leading in corner kicks 12-2.
Farmingdale State freshman forward Taylor Horgan (Long Beach,
N.Y./Long Beach) was named Skyline Conference Championship Most
Valuable Player for her outstanding performance in today's game.
Freshman goalkeeper Lena James (Atlanta, Ga./Henry W. Grady) had
eight saves, allowing only the corner kick goal for the Raptors.
Freshman Maggie Studsrud (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan E. Wagner)
earned the victory in goal for the Rams.
Farmingdale received an automatic bid to the 2009 NCAA Division
III National Championship Tournament. The Championship seedings and
bracket will be released Monday, October 9th at 10:00am. The Rams
enter the tournament with a 15-4-3 record, while Bard ends the
season at 10-6-4.
