SALEM, Va. | Senior forward Kayla Mendez (Staten Island, N.Y.) opened the scoring and the Farmingdale State women's soccer team added two second-half goals en route to a 3-0 victory over Greensboro College on Sunday afternoon in a neutral site match.
The win capped a perfect weekend for the Rams at Roanoke College's Hyatt Place Showcase and marked their third straight victory. FSC improved to 3-1 on the season, while the Pride dropped to 2-2-1.
Mendez put FSC on the board 15:09 into the match for her second goal in as many days. She scored the game-winner in Saturday's 1-0 victory over Gettysburg.
The Rams carried the 1-0 advantage into halftime after outshooting Greensboro, 13-0, in the opening 45 minutes as the FSC defense held the Pride without a shot on goal during the first half.
Sophomore forward Jenna Biondo (North Babylon, N.Y.) doubled the lead just over 17 minutes into the second half, scoring at the 62:01 mark for her second goal of the season.
Sophomore forward Katelyn Nunziato (North Babylon, N.Y.) capped the scoring with 12:42 remaining, finding the back of the net off an assist from sophomore defender Maddie Fenwick (Guilderland, N.Y.). It was Nunziato's second goal of the season and Fenwick's first point of the year.
Farmingdale State finished with a 20-1 advantage in shots, including a 10-1 edge in shots on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Charlotte Hoina (Holbrook, N.Y.) made one save to record her second consecutive shutout, while Greensboro goalkeeper Alyssa Lane made seven saves.
The Rams will return home on Wednesday, September 16th, when they host Western Connecticut State University at 7:00 p.m.
