FSC Athletics Update - March 30

NEW YORK | The Skyline Conference released its latest weekly reports on Monday afternoon, and four student-athletes from Farmingdale State College received weekly awards, while another four garnered honorable mention praise.

Men's Lacrosse (7-2) | Skyline Weekly Report

Farmingdale State won its final two regular season non-conference games, capturing a 12-4 victory Tuesday against FDU-Florham and a 22-4 decision Saturday over Alfred State.

Junior long-stick midfielder Sean Lawson (Mattituck, N.Y.) and freshman attack Ethan Vargas (Bay Shore, N.Y.) received the Skyline's Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week awards, respectively, while junior attack Joey Forchelli (Seaford, N.Y.) was cited on its honorable mention list. Lawson swiped four caused turnovers in each of the games, while Vargas and Forchelli each registered a pair of hat tricks and three assists.

The Rams travel to Kings Point, N.Y. on Thursday night for a 7 p.m. game at the United States Merchant Marine Academy in a rematch of last season's Skyline final.

Baseball (6-7, 0-2 Skyline) | Skyline Weekly Report

FSC collected a 26-5 non-conference victory Thursday against John Jay, before falling in its Skyline-opening doubleheader Sunday at Mount Saint Vincent.

Senior outfielder Richie Heyder (Holbrook, N.Y.) received honorable mention praise after batting 5-for-7 with three extra-base hits (2B, 3B, HR), five runs, five walks and two RBI across the three-game stretch, while extending his hitting streak to nine consecutive games.

The Rams' lone action this week is a Monday afternoon home Skyline doubleheader at 3 p.m. against Manhattanville University, who is receiving votes in the latest D3baseball.com Top 25 Poll.

Women's Lacrosse (2-7, 1-1 Skyline) | Skyline Weekly Report

Farmingdale State opened its Skyline Conference slate with a 19-4 victory Tuesday over Manhattanville University, before dropping an 11-6 decision Saturday to defending champion USMMA.

Junior goalkeeper Giavanna Stamatelo (Levittown, N.Y.) was named the Skyline Defensive Player of the Week after posting a .595 save percentage and 7.50 goals against average, and has now registered double-digit saves in each of her last six outings.

Skyline play continues for the Rams Wednesday with a 6 p.m. road tilt at Mount Saint Mary College, before they play host Saturday at 1 p.m. to 14th-ranked The College of New Jersey.

Softball (5-7, 2-0 Skyline) | Skyline Weekly Report

FSC's first games at home were successful, as the defending Skyline champions kicked off conference play Sunday with a doubleheader sweep over Sarah Lawrence College by scores of 10-0 and 14-1.

Junior pitcher Madison DeMaio (Elmont, N.Y.) was named the conference's Pitcher of the Week after tossing her first career no-hitter in the second game versus the Gryphons, while honorable mention selection and sophomore Alexandra Pole (Rocky Point, N.Y.) went 4-for-5 with two doubles and six RBI.

The Rams have a pair of non-conference doubleheaders prior to Easter, including Thursday's 3 p.m. set at Montclair State and Saturday's noontime twinbill versus John Jay.

Men's Tennis (2-3, 1-0 Skyline) | Skyline Weekly Report

Farmingdale State opened up its Skyline title defense Thursday with a 6-1 victory at Yeshiva University, before losing a non-conference match Sunday at TCNJ, 7-0.

The Rams will play host to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. in a rematch of last spring's Skyline title tilt, before traveling Saturday for an 11 a.m. non-conference date at Oneonta.

Golf

FSC sat in seventh place after Sunday's opening round of the Swarthmore Invitational from White Manor Country Club in Malvern, Pa., and is competing in 36 holes of play Monday afternoon. The Rams will then compete Saturday and Sunday at the Trinity Invitational, which is being held at the Keney Park Golf Club in Windsor, Conn. 

Outdoor Track and Field

Farmingdale State's season gets underway Thursday at Kean University's Cougars Distance Carnival in Union, N.J., before traveling to Saturday's Coast Guard Academy Spring Invitational in New London, Conn.
