Late Goals Lift Women's Soccer Past Purchase

Farmingdale State - 2, Purchase - 0
PURCHASE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College women's soccer team scored twice in the final 20 minutes to earn a 2-0 Skyline Conference victory over Purchase College on Tuesday night.

The Rams (7-3-1, 4-1 Skyline) controlled the match from the start, recording 16 shots in the opening half while holding the Panthers (0-5-2, 0-4-1 Skyline) without one. Purchase goalkeeper Jill Creegan made five saves in the first half to keep the game scoreless.

FSC nearly broke through several times in the opening 45 minutes. Senior forward Kayla Mendez (Staten Island, N.Y.) hit the crossbar in the 28th minute, while sophomore forward Katelyn Nunziato (North Babylon, N.Y.) and junior midfielder Abigail Chest (Johnstown, N.Y.) each had shots turned away by Creegan. Mendez was also denied late in the half.

The Rams got on the board in the 72nd minute. Nunziato set up sophomore forward Jenna Biondo (North Babylon, N.Y.) for the goal to give FSC the 1-0 lead.

Just over nine minutes later, senior defender Maiya Christmas (Grand Rapids, Mich.) doubled the advantage with an unassisted goal at the 80:40 mark.

Farmingdale State finished the night with a commanding 36-2 advantage in shots and held a 12-1 edge in corner kicks. Mendez and Nunziato each recorded seven shots, while Biondo added six.

Creegan finished with 10 saves for Purchase, while freshman goalkeeper Riana Herold (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) made one save to record the shutout for FSC.

The Rams will return home on Saturday, October 10th, when they host Mount Saint Vincent in a Skyline Conference matchup at noon.
