FSC Athletics Winter Update No. 11

NEW YORK | The latest weekly releases were posted by the Skyline Conference and New Jersey Athletic Conference on Tuesday morning, with one Farmingdale State College student-athlete earning a national award, another receiving a conference honor, and a pair collecting weekly honor-roll praise.

Men's Basketball (20-1, 12-0 Skyline) | Skyline Report

The Rams' best start in program history includes a current 16-game winning streak, good for the second-best mark in program history, after the team captured double-digit road victories Tuesday at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, as well as Saturday night at Yeshiva. FSC is receiving votes in this week's D3hoops.com Top 25 poll, marking the fourth week in which it has been chosen by at least one voter, as the Rams have seven voting points in the current slate.

Senior swingman Nick Hurowitz (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) was named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week, and was cited on both the Skyline Conference's weekly honor roll and the Met Basketball Writers Association honorable mention list, after posting double-doubles in both contests, averaging 26 points and 13 rebounds per game along the way. Hurowitz is just the sixth student-athlete in program history to collect Team of the Week kudos, and the second this season after classmate Aaron Davis (Valley Stream, N.Y.) earned praise for the week ending Dec. 17.

Head coach Brendan Twomey's side sits one victory away from clinching the top seed in the Feb. 20-24 Skyline Conference Championship. Farmingdale State plays host to Mount Saint Mary on "Greek Night," Wednesday at 7 p.m., before traveling Saturday for a 2 p.m. tip at Manhattanville in a rematch of last season's Skyline championship final.

The Rams teams were in action Friday night at the Coast Guard Invitational, with sophomore Nicholas Lourenco (Bay Shore, N.Y.) breaking his own school record with a victorious mark of 4.90m (16-0.75) in the pole vault. He received the NJAC's Field Athlete of the Week honor for the third time this season for his efforts, and his leap sits in a ninth-place tie on the NCAA Division III Indoor Championship Performance List.

Head coach Daniela Georgieva's FSC teams are back in action Friday, when they travel to Staten Island for the Fastrack National Invite at the Ocean Breeze complex.

Women's Basketball (9-11, 7-8 Skyline) | Skyline Report

Farmingdale State went 1-1 in home Skyline competition last week, earning a 25-point victory over Old Westbury on Wednesday night before falling Saturday to Mount Saint Mary. Senior forward Layla Mendoza (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.) was named to the Skyline's weekly honor roll, after she averaged 14.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.5 blocks per game.

Head coach Mark Dellecave's Rams have a pair of conference contests this week, traveling Tuesday night for a 7 p.m. start at St. Joseph's-Long Island, before welcoming Skyline-leading Manhattanville to Nold Hall for a 1 p.m. tip-off on Saturday.
