Women's Soccer, USMMA Play to Scoreless Draw

Farmingdale State 0, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy 0
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College women's soccer team remained unbeaten in Skyline Conference play on Saturday afternoon, as the Rams played conference-leading U.S. Merchant Marine Academy to a 0-0 draw.

Just two minutes after the second half commenced, the visiting Mariners (7-1-4, 6-0-2) were on a partial breakaway attempt, before FSC (5-6-4, 4-0-3 Skyline) recovered defensively to force the ensuing shot attempt wide of the left-hand post. From there, the Rams posted a pair of offensive chances two minutes apart from each other with less than 30 minutes to go. In the 61st minute of play, when sophomore Stephanie Alberghine (Medford, N.Y.) one-touched a shot on target from a feed by freshman Rachel McAuliff (Sayville, N.Y.). However, USMMA keeper Margaret Ripperger dove to the bottom-left corner to make the save, keeping the game scoreless.

Two minutes after Alberghine's effort, senior defender Alexandra Getfield (West Islip, N.Y.) appeared to put the home side in front off a rebounded shot. However, the goal was waived off after the Rams were determined to be offside on the play.

In her second game of the season, Farmingdale State junior goalie Hailey Stork (Bellmore, N.Y.) made a career-high-tying seven saves, and has now recorded four clean sheets in as many appearances in the FSC uniform.

The Rams will round out the non-conference portion of their regular-season schedule on Wednesday (Oct. 16) at 4 p.m., when they play host to Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham.
