Late Offense Continues for Women's Soccer in Victory at Arcadia

Farmingdale State - 2; Arcadia - 1
GLENSIDE, Pa. | A pair of goals in the final 21 minutes of play by sophomore striker Alyse Rivera (Manhattan, N.Y.) sent the Farmingdale State College women's soccer team past host Arcadia University on Sunday afternoon, 2-1.

The visiting Rams (2-3-1) rounded out their back-to-back weekend in the Keystone State with a victory over the Knights (3-4), one day after FSC used a late goal off a set-piece situation to earn a 1-1 draw at DeSales University.

Arcadia went in front 25 minutes in, when Alexis Rabold found the back of the net for the host side off an assist from Alexa Barnett.

Rivera's fourth goal of the season equalized the match in the 69th minute, when she dented the net at the right-hand post to square the contest at 1-all. Freshman attacker Ava Lanza (E. Meadow, N.Y.) provided her first-career assist to set up the tally.

With less than two minutes to go, Rivera was along the endline just inside the left-hand edge of the Knights' penalty area, and was pulled down after a cut back to earn a spot kick. The reigning Skyline Conference Player of the Week calmly stepped up and beat the diving Arcadia keeper to send the Rams to victory with her 16th career goal.

Farmingdale State held a 14-9 edge in shots on the afternoon, and received a career-best seven-save showing in net from sophomore goalie Gabby Pinero (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) to make the win stand up.

Head coach Chris Roche's Rams will next continue Skyline Conference play on Wednesday night (Sept. 20), when they travel to Kings Point, N.Y., for a 7 p.m. kickoff against the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Bartoszek Field.
