Rams Run Past Purchase for Third Skyline

The Rams ran past Purchase College, 7-1, on Wednesday night for
their third Skyline Conference win of the season. Farmingdale led
5-1 at the half and finished strong to improve to 8-2 overall, 3-0
in conference play.
Sophomore defender Jillian Lasota (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa)
opened the scoring with a header on a corner kick from sophomore
forward Christina Merrill (Levittown, N.Y./Island Trees) at the
27:54 mark. Freshman midfielder Tiffany Okerblom (Oakdale,
N.Y./Upper Room Christian) scored next, her first goal of the
season, on a breakaway just six minutes later. The Rams third goal
of the night came from sophomore forward Carly Schneider (Merrick,
N.Y./Bellmore JFK) on a cross from junior midfielder Katrina Cerverizzo (Center Moriches, N.Y./Center Moriches) and Merrill.
Sophomore forward Corine Magee (Mastic, N.Y./William Floyd)
added a fourth goal for Farmingdale State, unassisted off a
rebound, before Purchase broke the shutout with a goal by Abigail
Katz. Schneider netted her second of the day with 1:28 remaining in
the half and the Rams took a 5-1 lead into halftime.
In the second, Merrill sent home a cross from junior defender
Shannon Kalogeras* (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) to increase
the lead to 6-1. Sophomore forward Melissia Elie (Brentwood,
N.Y./Brentwood) and sophomore midfielder Kasey Estelle (West Islip,
N.Y./West Islip) connected for the final goal of the night.
Farmingdale State will now host Mount Saint Mary College on
Saturday, October 2nd at 2:00 p.m.
