Rams Shutout Old Westbury on Senior Day

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's soccer
team shutout Skyline opponent Old Westbury, 3-0, improving to 8-1
in conference play. The Rams now stand at 14-4 overall, as they
honored their lone senior Anna-Marie Rivera (Bay Shore,
N.Y./Brentwood) this afternoon on senior day.
Sophomore forward Corine Magee
(Mastic, N.Y./William Floyd) broke the scoreless tie late in the
first half as she lofted a shot over the defense scoring a goal at
the 37:27 mark. Sophomore Christina
Merrill (Levittown, N.Y./Island Trees) and freshman Nora Connolly
(Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) were each credited with an assist on
Magee's goal. Farmingdale State held a 9-2 first half shot
advantage and took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Sophomore defender Jillian
Lasota (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) scored on a header off
sophomore forward Jamie Smith's
(Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem East) corner kick in the 68th minute,
putting the Rams on top 2-0. Rivera, the only senior on
Farmingdale's roster, scored the games final for the Rams on a shot
from the corner with nine minutes remaining in the match.
Rivera, a team captain, played in her final regular season home
game today. In her four-year career at Farmingdale State, Rivera
played in 64 games, scoring 11 goals and added two assists for 24
points. She won the Skyline Conference Championship in each of her
first three seasons on the team.
Junior goalkeeper Amanda Maass
(Mastic Beach, N.Y./William Floyd) had three saves in the victory,
while senior goalie Jennifer Kupfer (Bellmore, N.Y./Mepham)
recorded 11 saves for Old Westbury (10-6, 6-2 Skyline).
The Rams next will travel to Mount Saint Vincent for their last
regular season game on Saturday, October 23rd at 5:00 p.m.
