Box Score Two Quick Goals Lead Rams over Old Westbury
Farmingdale State - 2, Old Westbury - 0
Old Westbury, N.Y. - A goal in the 53rd minute,
followed by a goal two minutes later would be enough for the
Farmingdale State women's soccer team to defeat Old Westbury 2-0
this afternoon, in Old Westbury, N.Y. The Rams improved to 6-2-2 on
the season and 2-0 in Skyline play, while the Panthers fell to
2-4-1, 1-1 in the conference. Farmingdale has not lost a game since
the non-conference matchup with Manhattanville on September 8th.
The Rams held a considerable shot advantage in the first half,
but were unable to score. Farmingdale out shot the Panthers 16-1 in
the half.
Freshman Christina Merrill (Levittown, N.Y./Island Trees) scored
off the pass from senior Tricia Pickford (Massapequa,
N.Y./Massapequa) eight minutes into the second half, giving the
Rams a 1-0 lead. Sophomore Katrina Cerverizzo (Center Moriches,
N.Y./Center Moriches) added a second goal less then two minutes
later off Merrill's pass. Farmingdale State out shot Old Westbury
28-6.
Freshman goalkeeper Maggie Studsrud (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan
E. Wagner) had three saves in the win, while sophomore keeper
Jennifer Kupfer (Bellmore, N.Y./Mepham) had a season-high 18 saves
in the defeat for Old Westbury.
The Rams travel to Bard for a Skyline Conference game on
Saturday, September 26th at 2:00pm.
