JAMAICA, N.Y. | Farmingdale State sophomore
Nicholas Lourenco (Bay Shore, N.Y.) set the Farmingdale State men's outdoor track and field record in the pole vault on Saturday at the season-opening meet, The Big Hurt.
Lourenco, who is coming off an All-American indoor track and field season, cleared a height of 4.80m (15' 9") to break Nick David's previous school record of 14' 11" set in 2010. His mark ranks fourth in the Nation and has earned him qualification into the All-Atlantic Regional Championships, which will take place in May.
In addition to Lourenco's win in the pole vault, sophomores
Matthew Latimer (Wyandanch, N.Y.) and
Daniel Bamfo (Lake Grove, N.Y.), as well as junior Joavany Philippe (Huntington, N.Y.) picked up victories for FSC.
Latimer won the 400m dash with his time of 50.86, while Bamfo took first in the triple jump in a regional qualifying mark of 13.57m (44' 6.25").
Philippe earned the win in the long jump with a length of 6.79m (22' 3.5"). He also finished third in the triple jump with a mark of 12.67m (41' 7"). Both were career-bests for Philippe, with his effort in the long jump ranking 22nd in the NCAA.
In the shot put,
Adonias Mercado (Hillsdale, N.Y.) and
Jahvirye Wilks (Farmingdale, N.Y.) came in second and third, respectively, with tosses of 12.61m and 12.47m.
Sophomore
Samuel Aladegboungbe (Bay Shore, N.Y.) picked up second place in the high jump (1.73m - 5'8") and third in the 400m (51.88), while junior
Dontay Taylor (Saint Vincent and the Grenadines) finished third in the 100m (11.25).
Senior
Timothy Folarin (Elmont, N.Y.) led Farmingdale State in the 200m, taking seventh place in a career-best 22.87.
In the 3000m, freshman
Max Reilly (Levittown, N.Y.) and senior
Anthony Piergiovanni (Wantagh, N.Y.) recorded second (9:49.56) and third (10:27.71).
The FSC relays had a strong showing as the 4x400m team of Aladegboungbe,
Daran Saul (Deer Park, N.Y.),
Tristan Socias (Uniondale, N.Y.)Â and Latimer won in 3:31.48. The 4x100m team of Philippe, Folarin,
Tyler Miles (Huntington, N.Y.) and Taylor earned second place in 45.07.
On the women's side, senior
Alycia Haynes (Adams Center, N.Y.) took fourth place in the 1500m in 5:31.20 and freshman
Treesha Jayakody (Jamaica, N.Y.) picked up fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 9.19m (30' 2").Â
Sophomore
Kimberlyn David (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) ran the 100m and 200m dashes for the Rams, earning seventh (14.37) and 11th (30.91), respectively, in career-best times.
The outdoor track and field teams are next in action on Saturday, April 6th when they travel to Southern Connecticut State University for the Wilton Wright Invitational.
