Farmingdale State - 3, Sarah Lawrence - 1 (25-13, 22-25, 25-14, 25-16)
Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's volleyball team hosted Skyline opponent Sarah Lawrence in their regular season finale this evening on senior night and won, 3-1. With the win, FSC finishes 7-4 in the conference and has earned the #5 seed for the playoffs.
Prior to tonight's match, the Rams' lone senior Kelsey Voiklis (Commack, N.Y.) was honored for senior night.
After cruising to a 25-13 win in the first set, Farmingdale State (15-13) led 17-10 in the second before the Gryphons (13-16, 5-6 Skyline) used a 15-5 run to win the set, 25-22.
In the third set, the Rams were in front 13-9 and used a kill and three straight service aces from sophomore outside Rachel McCartin (Wantagh, N.Y.) to take a 17-9 advantage. FSC would go on to win the set 25-14 and take a 2-1 advantage into the fourth.
Farmingdale State jumped out to a 12-5 lead in the fourth set and never looked back as they captured the set, 25-16, and the match, 3-1.
Voiklis tallied a match-high 17 kills and .324 attacking percentage, while McCartin registered 15 kills, 15 digs and four aces. Sophomore outside Kate Flamio (East Islip, N.Y.) recorded 13 kills and 19 digs, freshman setter Lexi Cavalieri (Lake Grove, N.Y.) notched 45 assists and 14 digs, and sophomore libero Madisyn Pozo (Bayside, N.Y.) produced a team-high 25 digs. Freshman middle blocker Jenna Hayes (Kings Park, N.Y.) tallied a career-high seven kills, while sophomore defensive specialist Kellianne Dempsey (Lake Grove, N.Y.) and freshman right side Mikayla Dalton (Mineola, N.Y.) added 14 and 12 digs, respectively.
Sarah Lawrence defensive specialist Clarise Steiner (Mansfield, Ohio) recorded a match-high 31 digs in the loss.
The fifth seeded Rams will now travel to #4 St. Joseph's-Long Island for the first round of the Skyline Conference Championship on Tuesday, November 5th at 7:00 p.m.
