Freshmen Show Promise in NCAA Championships

- Magee and Chukwuezi compete at NCAA's -

Greencastle, Ind. - Freshmen Corine Magee (Mastic Beach, N.Y./William Floyd) and Faustine Chukwuezi (Central Islip, N.Y./Central Islip) competed in the NCAA Division III Indoor Track Championships at DePauw University on March 12th-13th. The field of 224 student-athletes in the 15 Championship events, featured just 30 freshman participants.

Magee qualified for the NCAA's on March 5th at the ECAC Championships, where she ran a school record 7.25 in the 55m Dash. As the only freshman to qualify in this event, Corine ran a 7.34 and finished in 16th place. This season, she has broken school records in the 55m, 200m and as a member of the 4x200m Relay team.    

Chukwuezi, who broke the school record in the Triple Jump to qualify for this year's NCAA's, was one of just two freshman to qualify in the event. She finished in a tie for 13th place with a jump of 36' 2". Faustine currently holds school records in the Triple Jump and as part of the 4x200m Relay team.

The women's indoor track team will look forward to next season, carrying over a roster which features 9-of-13 rookies with just two seniors graduating.
