Indoor Track End of Season Recap

The men’s indoor track team had one NCAA Qualifier and seven ECAC Qualifiers this season. Freshman long jumper Andre Brown became the first Farmingdale State student-athlete in history to qualify for the Division III NCAA’s and now becomes the first student-athlete at Farmingdale to win a Division III National Championship. At the ECAC Championships, the men’s team finished 18th out of 47 teams, with three top-ten finishes. Andre Brown took 2nd place in the long jump, Reggie Routier took 5th place in the Triple Jump and the 4x200 meter Relay team finished in 6th place. The men’s 4x200 meter Relay team is now #2 on the All-Time Farmingdale Top-Ten List.

The women’s team, led by sophomore captain Indiana Ripoll, finished 9th in the CTC Relays, including a 5th place finish in the 55 meter relay.

Freshman Andre Brown Wins Division III Long Jump National Championship

Freshman Andre Brown (Jamaica, NY/Waterford, West Indies) won the Division III NCAA Championship in the Long Jump competition with a leap of 23 feet 10 inches - 7.26 meters. Brown, who qualified for the NCAA’s with a leap of 22’ 11 ¾” (7.00m), was the first Farmingdale State student-athlete in history to qualify for the Division III NCAA’s and now becomes the first student-athlete at Farmingdale to win a Division III National Championship.

In the preliminary round in the midst of 11 other long jumpers, Andre jumped 6.81 meters (22’ 4 ¼”) on his first attempt. He fouled on the 2nd jump and then jumped 6.95 meters (22’ 9 ¾”) on his third attempt. The two jumps put him in fifth place with nine jumpers going into the finals.

In the Long Jump finals, Andre’s first attempt measured 7.09 meters (23’ 3 ¼”), moving him into second place. His second jump, which would stand as the championship jump, measured at 7.26 meters (23’ 10”), followed by a third jump of 7.10 meters (23’ 3 ½”).

Brown edged out Tufts University sophomore Fred Jones, who saved his best for last at 7.24 meters (23’ 9”) in his final jump of the day.

Men's Indoor Track Shines at ECAC Championships

Seven members of the Indoor Track team competed this past weekend at the ECAC Championships at St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY. Freshman Andre Brown (Jamaica, NY/Waterford) placed second in the long jump with a leap of 22’ 7 ¼” (6.89m), and led off the 4x200m Relay team, which placed sixth in 1:32.61. Joining Brown on the relay team were freshman Tywaun Sanford (Freeport, NY/Freeport), sophomore Kenny Adams (Spring Valley, NY/Ramapo) and freshman Ian Morgan (Amityville, NY/Amityville).

Freshman Reggie Routier (Amityville, NY/Freeport) set a personal best of 44’ 8 ¾” (13.63m) to place fifth in the triple jump. Freshman Reuben Hairston placed 10th in the Long Jump at 21’ 3” (6.48m). Freshman Ian Morgan placed 11th in the 400m with a time of 51.01. The men’s team finished with a combined score of 15 points, placing them in 18th out of 47 entered teams (32 scoring teams).

Coach Minkoff and Andre Brown will be traveling to Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois for the NCAA Division III Championships on March 11th-12th. Andre will be competing in the long jump on Friday, March 11th at 11:00am. He is the first in school history to qualify for the NCAA’s.

Rams Prepare for ECAC’s at NYU Fast Track Meet

Freshman Ian Morgan (Amityville, NY/Amityville) ran 50.14 in the 400m to qualify for the ECAC Championships next week and place him in 7th on the All-time Farmingdale 400m indoor list. Freshman Ian Lovergie (Castle Point, NY/Beacon) high jumped 6’5” to move to 10th on the All-time list. Freshman Reggie Routier (Amityville, NY/Freeport) triple jumped 44’ 3 ¼” (13.49m), each bettering their previous ECAC qualifying mark. Freshman Shane Smith (Brooklyn, NY/Lafayette) pole vaulted 13’3” in his first collegiate competition and quickly took a spot on the All-time pole vault list at 3rd place. Junior Patric Santiago (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) once again set a personal record triple jumping 42’ 4 ½” (12.91m).

Rams Again Say Hello to NCAA and ECAC's

The Men's Indoor Track Team placed 10th out of the 21 scoring teams at the Collegiate Track Conference Championships on February 12th – 13th. The Rams came home with nine Top-10 finishes, another NCAA qualifying jump by Andre Brown, two ECAC qualifiers and five personal bests.

Freshman Andre Brown took 2nd place in the Long Jump (7.06) at 23'2", bettering his first National Championships Qualifying performance by two and a quarter inches. Freshman Reggie Routier recorded two personal bests at the meet with a 2nd place finish in the 55m Hurdles in 8.14 seconds and he also took 5th place in the Triple Jump at 44' 1 ¼" - (13.44). Freshman Ian Lovergie took 2nd place in the High Jump at 6'4", qualifying him for the ECAC's. Freshman Reuben Hairston placed 7th in the Triple Jump at 42' 4 ½" (12.92). Junior Patric Santiago placed 8th with a personal best in the Triple Jump at 42' ½" (12.81) and also jumped a personal best 5'10" in the high jump. Alberto Soberanes ran a personal best 5000m race taking 10th place in a time of 16:59.3, moving him to 10th on the Farmingdale Top-Ten List.

The 4x200m Relay team of Andre Brown, Joseph Boaheng, Elloy Cassell and Ian Morgan placed 3rd with a time of 1:30.57, which qualifies them for the ECAC's and places them at #2 on the Farmingdale Top-Ten List.

The 4x400m Relay team of Tywaun Sanford, Reggie Routier, Ian Lovergie and Reuben Hairston took 6th place at 3:31.85.

In just his first collegiate competition, Andre won the long jump at the Wesleyan Invitational with an NCAA provisional and ECAC qualifying jump of 22’ 11 ¾” (7.00m). Brown also placed 7th in the 55m in 6.67 (6.63 trials) to also qualify for the ECAC Championships in that event. Andre now ranks third on the All-time Farmingdale Long Jump list and is the first-ever National Championships qualifier since Farmingdale became an NCAA school in 2000. Brown's jump was also the best at Wesleyan's Bacon Field House in the last 12 years.

Freshman Reggie Routier (Amityville, NY/Freeport) placed second in the Triple Jump in an ECAC qualifying 43’ 2 ½” (13.17m). Reggie also placed fifth in the 55m Hurdles with a personal best 8.24. Reggie is ranked 10th on the All-time Farmingdale Triple Jump list.

Reuben Hairston (Freeport, NY/Freeport) followed Brown and Routier in the Long and Triple Jumps, tying for second place in the Long Jump with a jump of 21' 9" (6.63m) and taking fifth place in the Triple Jump in 42’ 9 ½” (13.04m). Reuben has previously qualified for the ECAC meet in the Long Jump and ranks 10th on the All-time Farmingdale list.

Six Personal Bests Set at NYU Invitational

On his 19th birthday, Reuben Hairston (Freeport, NY/Freeport) set two personal bests after placing 2nd in the long jump, 21’ 11 ¾” (6.70m) and 12th in the triple jump, 42’ 6 ½” (12.97m). Reggie Routier (Amityville, NY/Freeport) finished with two personal bests of his own, placing 7th in the 55m hurdles in 8.75 and 11th in the triple jump in 42’ 7 ½” (12.99m). Also setting personal bests were Patric Santiago (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) in the triple jump, 41’ 5 ¼” (12.63), and Jason Hernandez’s (Bay Shore, NY/St. Anthony’s) 1:12.86 in the 500m run.

Indoor Track Places 9th in Fordham Invitational

Farmingdale was one of the two Divison III schools invited to the prestigious Fordham Invitational. The field of 11 Division I and Division II schools included such notable programs such as Seton Hall, Rutgers, Fordham, Manhattan College, Holy Cross and FDU. The men’s team placed 9th out of the 15 schools.

Sophomore Joseph Boaheng (Bronx, NY/Dewitt Clinton) won his 60m dash trial heat (7.16) then placed 6th in the final in 7.09 to qualify for the ECAC Champs on March 4th and 5th. Boaheng also won his heat in the 200m in 23.13. Reuben Hairston (Freeport, NY/Freeport) placed 3rd in the long jump in (6.60m) 21’8” to better his ECAC Qualifying standard.

Other notable performances:

Reggie Routier – 7th place – Triple Jump – 12.86m – 42’2 ¼”

Ian Lovergie – 5th place – High Jump – 1.88m – 6’2”

Tywaun Sanford – 7th place – 400m – 51.08

The Rams have another meet at the Armory on Friday, January 14th, the NYU Collegiate Invitational.

Hairston Qualifies for ECAC's at MAC Holiday Classic

Freshman Reuben Hairston (Freeport, NY/Freeport) long jumped 21'4" (6.50) to qualify for the ECAC Championships on March 4th and 5th at St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY. He will join fellow freshman Andre Spears (Westbury, NY/Westbury) at the ECAC's. Spears qualified in the triple jump at the CTC Relays on December 5, 2004.

The freshmen men excelled at the Seton Hall Games on December 12th led by Ian Lovergie’s 3rd place finish in the high jump (6’2”) and long jump 20’ 9 ¾”. In the season opener at Southern Connecticut, Ian helped the 4x200m Relay team to a second place finish in a time of 1:36.1.

The freshmen men excelled at the Seton Hall Games on December 12th led by Ian Lovergie’s (Castle Point, NY/Beacon) 3rd place in the high jump (6’2”) and long jump 20’ 9 ¾”. Reggie Routier (Amityville, NY/Freeport) placed 5th in the 60m high hurdles (8.78), Andre Spears (Westbury, NY/Westbury) placed 5th in the triple jump (43’ 1 ¾”). Tywaun Sanford (Freeport, NY/Freeport) placed 5th in the 400m (51.65) and Reuben Hairston (Freeport, NY/Freeport) placed 6th in the long jump (20’4”).

Other notable performaces:

Four triple jumpers went over 40 feet: Spears – 41’ 1 ¾”, Hairston – 41’ 11 ¼”, Routier – 41’ 6” and Patric Santiago (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) – 40’ 5”.

Freshman Kevin Desrouilleres (Spring Valley, NY/Ramapo) had a 40’ shot put.

For the women’s team, Sophomore Indiana Ripoll (New York, NY/JFK) placed 4th in her 800m section in 2:44.28 followed by junior Rachel Siegel (Medford, NY/Bellport) who was sixth in 2:50.63. Freshmen sprinters who ran the 200m were: Jamela Jacobs (Brooklyn, NY/William H. Maxwell) 30.42, Mariama Conteh (Bronx, NY/St. Barnabas) 30.98 and Cynthia Dumas (White Plains, NY/Good Counsel) 32.82.

The Farmingdale State Men’s Indoor Track Team opened their season at the Collegiate Track Conference (CTC) Relays on Sunday, December 5th at Southern Connecticut State University. Freshman Andre Spears (Westbury, NY/Westbury) qualified for the ECAC Championships on March 4-5 by triple jumping 43’ 9 ½” (13.34m). Andre combined with junior Patric Santiago (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin), who jumped 39’ 11 ½”, to place second in the triple jump relay. The Men’s team placed 5th overall.

Other notable results were:

55m Relay: 2nd place finish. Joseph Boaheng (Bronx, NY/Dewitt Clinton) 6.76, and Djimmitry Jean-Louis (Elmont, NY/Sewanhaka) 7.06.

4x200m Relay: 2nd place finish in 1:36.1. Nyakeh Charley (Mt. Vernon, NY/Arch Bishop Stepinac), Ian Lovergie (Castle Point, NY/Beacon), Reuben Hairston (Freeport, NY/Freeport) and Reggie Routier (Amityville, NY/Freeport).
