Vanessa is a 2009 graduate of Amityville Memorial High School, where she competed in tennis, winter track and spring track. In tennis, she received a Coaches Award and was named an MVP of her team. In track, she was named Most Improved, received a Coaches Award, MVP award and Attendance award.

She is the daughter of Simon Josma.
