2008 Women’s Soccer Season Recap
Farmingdale, N.Y. – The Farmingdale State
women’s soccer team won the Skyline Conference Championship
for the second straight season, earning them a bid to the NCAA
Division III Tournament. The Rams finished the season with a 12-10
record, including 8-1 in conference play. Farmingdale defeated Bard
at home, 3-2, in the Quarterfinal round of the playoffs, and then
traveled to St. Joseph’s and shutout the Golden Eagles 1-0 in
the Finals.
The Rams closed out their season facing the ninth ranked team in
the nation, Amherst College, in the opening round of the NCAA
Division III Tournament in Springfield, Massachusetts. Farmingdale
kept it close trailing 1-0 at the half; however, Amherst would pull
away in the second and take the 4-0 victory.
Three players received All-Conference honors this season for the
Rams. Senior defender Kaitlin O’Brien (East Islip, N.Y.) was
named First-Team after anchoring a defense that allowed only five
goals in conference games this season. Freshman midfielder Brittany
Williams (Massapequa, N.Y.) and freshman forward Katrina Cerverizzo
(Center Moriches, N.Y.) were both named Second Team
All-Skyline.
Junior midfielder Tricia Pickford (Massapequa, N.Y.) started all
21 games for Farmingdale and led the team with eleven assists.
Freshman goalkeeper Amanda Maass (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) had a .811
save percentage on the season and recorded eight shutouts.
The Rams will be returning a majority of their team for next
season; however, will miss the contributions of O’Brien who
will be graduating in May 2009 with a degree in Technology Studies.
