Bangor, ME – Farmingdale State College (1-2) fought their way to a 3-1 victory over U. Mass Boston (1-2) in the Husson Women's Soccer Classic. Christina Cascio (SO, Kings Park) had two goals to pace Farmingdale.
The Rams put consent pressure on the Beacons in the first half but could not find the back of the net until the 31:50 mark. Amanda Biondi (SO, West Islip, NY) served a pass to Cascio on a break away and Cascio pushed it past U. Mass Boston goalie Ashley McRoberts (FY, Merrimack, NH) to put the Rams up 1-0.
Farmingdale would strike again five minutes into the second half, when Jennifer Jung (SO, New Hyde Park, NY) drilled a ball to the right corner of the net 25 yards out. Tricia Pickford (SO, Massapequa Park, NY) assisted on the goal.
Trailing 2-0, the Beacon's found life when Krika Marsters (SO, Mashpee, MA) scored to cut the lead to 2-1. Nicki Finamore (FY, Weymouth, MA) served a corner in front of the net, as the defender was attempting to clear the ball Marsters stepped in and directed the ball into the net off her hip.
The Rams answered capitalizing on a short punt by McRoberts. Cascio took the short punt and dribbled towards the net firing a shot past McRoberts 35 yards out to make the score 3-1. McRoberts finished with 13 saves facing 20 shots. Rams goalie Nicole Zarek (SO, Massapequa, NY) recorded 1 save against 7 shots.
Farmingdale will play WNEC on Sunday, September 9 at 11:00 AM while U. Mass Boston will take on the host Husson College at 1:00 PM.
