Rams Fall to First Place Montclair State on Senior Day

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team fell, 20-9, to Montclair State this afternoon in a Skyline Conference game. The Rams drop to 7-6 overall, 6-2 in the conference, while the Red Hawks improved to 10-3 and a perfect 8-0 in skyline play. Seniors Justine Rothar (Levittown, N.Y.) and Autumn Berndt (Brewster, N.Y.) were honored on senior day as they played in their final regular season home game this afternoon.

Montclair State quickly jumped ahead 2-0 as Kailee Beal (Landing, N.J.) and Cora Delfini (New Egypt, N.J.) each scored a goal within the first 44 seconds of the game. Junior Krystin Shand* (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) netted a pass from sophomore Emily Williams (Centerport, N.Y.) 20 seconds later, cutting the deficit to 2-1. After a Red Hawks score, sophomore attack Kim Lehmann (Albertson, N.Y.) and Williams recorded goals for Farmingdale, tying the game at 3-3 with 24:52 remaining in the first half. Rothar put the Rams ahead for the first time as she scored a free position goal 1:04 later.

Trailing 4-3 with 7:11 remaining in the first half, Montclair State scored their first of eight consecutive goals to end the half. The Red Hawks took an 11-4 advantage into the break.

Sophomore attack Carly Schneider (Merrick, N.Y.) scored an unassisted goal 1:19 into the second half for Farmingdale State. The Red Hawks answered with four straight goals and extended their lead to 15-5. The Rams would close within 15-8 midway through the final period but eventually fall 20-9.

Farmingdale State was led by Williams who scored three goals, had one assist and four draw controls. Shand scored two goals and recorded two assists, while Schneider also had two goals. Rothar scored one goal and had one assist in her final regular season home game. Lehmann had a game-high five ground balls for the Rams.

Delfini and Beal each had a game-high six points, scoring five and four goals, respectively. Senior attack Kayla Henderson (Landing, N.J.) tallied four goals and four draw controls.

Rothar will leave Farmingdale State as the schools all-time leading scorer. She currently has a total of 164 goals, 104 assists and also holds single-game records for points in a game, goals in a game and assists in a game. Justine is a 3-Time All-Conference player, 2-Time All-Region player and was the 2009 Skyline Player of the Year.

Berndt first joined the Rams in 2009 as they claimed their first-ever Skyline Championship.  Beginning her career at attack, she has now moved to a starting defensive spot and currently holds a career total of 11 goals and two assists.

Farmingdale State next will travel to Centenary for a non-conference game on Friday, April 22nd at 3:00 p.m.
