Farmingdale State - 74, St. Joseph's-LI - 48
Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team cruised to a 74-48 Skyline Conference victory over St. Joseph's-Long Island this evening in Farmingdale, N.Y.
In a first quarter controlled by the Rams (3-6, 1-2), Farmingdale State outscored the Golden Eagles (2-6, 0-3) 15-2 and held them to only 7-percent shooting (1-for-13).
Leading 17-4 early in the second, FSC senior guard Liz Durchhalter (Franklin Square, N.Y.) connected on a 3 to extend the advantage to 16. After a layup and free-throw by SJC-LI senior forward Andrea Iavarone (Miller Place, N.Y.), the Rams answered with a quick 7-3 run to go on top, 27-10, with 5:45 remaining.
Farmingdale State led 27-13 and outscored St. Joe's-LI 9-5 over the final 3:58 of the half to take a 36-18 advantage into the break. Freshman guard Khandra Rhoden (Brentwood, N.Y.) led the way with nine points for the Rams, while Iavarone scored 10 points and had 12 rebounds in the first half for the Golden Eagles.
With 8:46 remaining in the third and the Rams ahead 40-22, a 17-2 run over the next 3:55 increased the Farmingdale State advantage to 57-25.
FSC led 66-29 entering the fourth and despite being outscored 19-8 in the final quarter earned the 74-48 home win.
The Rams had five double-digit scorers as they were led by senior forward Essence Casey's (Huntington Station, N.Y.) team-high 14 points. Senior guard Kaelyn Ward (East Hampton, N.Y.) added 12 points, eight rebounds and a game-high seven steals, while Durchhalter finished with 11 points. Rhoden tallied 10 points and junior guard Alexis Antonacci (Plainview, N.Y.) recorded 10 points to go along with a game-high six assists.
For the Golden Eagles, Iavarone had a double-double with game-highs in both points (16) and rebounds (21).
The Rams next will host Skyline opponent Sarah Lawrence on Tuesday, December 12th at 7:00 p.m.
