Farmingdale State - 83, St. Mary's (Md.) - 79
Galloway, N.J. - Senior guard Nicky Young (Queens, N.Y.) scored a game-high 30 points as Farmingdale State earned an 83-79 victory over St. Mary's (Md.) in the consolation game of the Richard Stockton Tip-Off Tournament this afternoon. The Rams improved to 1-1 on the season, while the Seahawks dropped to 0-2.
Trailing 49-44 early in the second half, an 8-3 Farmingdale State run tied the game at 52-52. The Rams held a two point lead with 7:48 remaining, before a Christina Merrill (Levittown, N.Y.) 3-pointer and a layup and free-throw by Sade Holmes (Medford, N.Y.) increased the advantage to eight, 71-63. Four straight points by Young capped off a 10-0 Farmingdale State run which extended the lead to double-digits. The Seahawks closed within three, 80-77, with 42 seconds remaining but the Rams converted at the line over the final seconds to earn their first win of the season.
Young was named to the All-Tournament Team after tallying 30 points, 14 rebounds, nine assists and four steals, while junior guard Camille Romero (Queens, N.Y.) scored 14 points. Merrill recorded 11 points after shooting 4-for-4 from the field, including 3-for-3 from 3-point range.
The Rams next will travel to William Paterson for a non-conference game on Wednesday, November 20th at 7:00 p.m.
