Rams Cruise into Skyline Semifinals
Farmingdale State - 96, Purchase College - 55
Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team defeated Purchase College, 96-55, in the quarterfinal round of the Skyline playoffs this evening in Farmingdale, N.Y. The third-seeded Rams advance to face #2 NYU-Poly in the semifinals on Thursday, February 24th at 7:00 p.m.
Farmingdale State (19-7) jumped ahead early as sophomore forward Jalicia Connell (Westbury, N.Y./Hicksville) scored 11 of the teams first 19 points, including three baskets from 3-point range. The Rams extended their lead to 33-7 with 9:56 remaining before halftime. Farmingdale would lead by as many as 29 in the first half, while shooting 54.3% from the field.
Leading 48-21 to start the second half, the Rams shot 60% from the field and outscored Purchase 48-34 en route to a 96-55 quarterfinal win.
Junior guard Kayla Koch (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) was 8-for-10 from the field for 18 points, while Connell also scored 18, after shooting 60% from the floor. Freshman forward Lushanta Savadel (Bellport, N.Y./William Floyd) added 15 points and five boards, while junior guard Nikita Green (Roosevelt, N.Y./Roosevelt) had a game-high six assists for Farmingdale State.
Purchase College (8-18) was led by freshman forward Rachel Perrone (Poughquag, N.Y./Arlington) who recorded a double-double after scoring 19 points and collecting 11 boards.
The Rams will travel to #2 NYU-Poly for the semifinal round of the playoffs on Tuesday.
