Rams Stay Hot with Win over Purchase
Farmingdale State - 82, Purchase - 55
Purchase, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team picked up their ninth win in the last 11 games with an 82-55 Skyline Conference victory over Purchase College last night. The Rams improved to 16-6 overall and 12-3 in Skyline play.
After holding a 34-30 advantage at the break, Farmingdale State quickly extended their lead to 43-34 as senior guard Juanita Chappel (Brooklyn, N.Y./Grand Street Campus) and sophomore guard Nikita Green (Roosevelt, N.Y./Roosevelt) scored two baskets apiece to start the second half. The Panthers (7-14, 7-8 Skyline) pulled within six at the 12:02 mark, but the Rams responded with a 28-4 run spanning nearly nine minutes. The Rams led 80-50 with 3:23 remaining and went on for the 82-55 win after scoring 48 second half points.
Farmingdale State junior guard Kayla Koch (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) scored a game-high 23 points, 15 of which came in the second half. Junior forward Keona Jones (Brooklyn, N.Y./Grand Street Campus) recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 boards, while Green scored 10 points and had four assists.
Freshman forward Rachel Perone (Poughquag, N.Y./Arlington) scored 14 points and recorded a game-high 18 rebounds for Purchase College.
The Rams next will host St. Joseph's College on Wednesday, February 16th at 6:00 p.m. The Farmingdale State basketball teams will be participating in this years' Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Pink Zone initiative in honor of breast cancer awareness and to raise money for the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund.
