Late Run Sends Rams Past Dolphins

Farmingdale State - 66, Mount Saint Vincent - 59


Riverdale, N.Y. - Trailing by four at the half and by eight points halfway through the second half, the Farmingdale State women's basketball team used an 18-2 run over the final nine minutes of play to take a 66-59 conference victory over host team the College of Mount Saint Vincent (6-14, 4-10) on Wednesday night in Riverdale, N.Y. The Rams improved to 14-5, 10-2 in the Skyline.

The Dolphins held Farmingdale to just 29-percent shooting in the first half and held a 20-8 lead with 11:49 to go in the first half. The Rams scored 12 points over the next two minutes to tie the game at 20-20, but Mount Saint Vincent capitalized on missed shots to hold a four point lead, 34-30, at the half.

In the second, Farmingdale was able to tie the game at 36-36 before the Dolphins built up another lead and led 52-44 with 9:12 remaining. The late 18-2 run by the Rams would secure the victory.

Farmingdale State sophomore guard Nikita Green (Roosevelt, N.Y./Roosevelt) scored a game-high 20 points and six assists for the night, while junior forward Natasha Smalls (New York, N.Y./St. Michael's Academy) grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds. For the Dolphins, Kara McNish posted 14 points and 13 rebounds.

The Rams will now host the first place team in the Skyline Conference, Mount Saint Mary College, on Saturday, February 5th at 1:00 p.m.
