2009-10 Women's Basketball Season Recap

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The women’s basketball team captured their first ever Skyline Conference Championship after defeating eight-time defending champion Mount Saint Mary College in the title game. The Rams finished the regular season with an overall record of 22-1 and were the number one seed heading into the playoffs.

At the NCAA Tournament, Farmingdale was defeated by Gettysburg College in the first round to end their record breaking season.

Individually, the team was led by two-time Skyline Player of the Year, senior guard Kimberly Blakney (Brooklyn, N.Y./Benjamin Banneker). Blakney led the nation in both scoring and steals for the second consecutive year and was named the Met Basketball Writers Association Division III Player of the Year, a First Team All-Star for D3hoops.com and ECAC Metro Region First Team. Blakney averaged 25.6 points, 11.7 rebounds and 6.1 steals per game this year. She led the team with 53 blocked shots and was second with 64 assists. Blakney leaves Farmingdale as the colleges' all-time leading scorer and holds career records in six other categories.

Senior guard Kamaya Miller (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood) had an outstanding final year for the Rams as she finished second on the team in scoring (11.6 ppg), rebounds (6.6 rpg) and steals (3.6 spg). Miller contributed 50 assists and was the defense leader for coach Mooney.

Junior Juanita Chappel (Brooklyn, N.Y./Grand Street Campus) led the team with 89 assists and finished third in both scoring and steals. Senior Tiffara Steward (Elmont, N.Y./Sewanhaka), sophomore Dominique Cunningham (Amityville, N.Y./Copiague) and freshman Jeanette Zubizaretta (Bay Shore, N.Y./Calhoun) all were a major part of the teams success this season.
