Farmingdale State - 95, The Sage Colleges - 55
Farmingdale, N.Y. - With a 30-point performance from senior guard Kim Blakney (Brooklyn, N.Y./Benjamin Banneker), the Rams improved to 17-0, 11-0 in the Skyline with a 95-55 home victory over conference opponent The Sage Colleges (7-9, 5-6). Blakney, who is currently the Division III National leader in points and steals per game, also added nine rebounds, eight steals, three assists, and two blocks today, while knocking down three from long range and sinking 9-of-11 from the free throw line.
Farmingdale State led throughout and held a 13-point advantage at the half, 39-26, before pouring in 56 points in the second to keep the streak rolling. The Rams sank 12-of-15 free throws in the final 10 minutes of the second half, finishing the half shooting 74-percent from the charity stripe. The teams' 17 straight wins is a program record, shattering the previous record of 13 wins set during the 2004-05 season.
As a team, Farmingdale State forced 32 turnovers and had 24 steals with 16 players in scoring. Senior guard Kamaya Miller (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood) posted 11 points, while junior forward Quiana Holman (Bronx, N.Y./Hyde Prep), freshman guard Jeanette Zubizaretta (Bay Shore, N.Y./Calhoun) and sophomore guard Kayla Koch (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) scored 7 points each.
For the Gators, sophomore forward Kelsey Frament (Waterford, N.Y./Catholic Central) led with 13 points, while senior guard Carlin DeMarinis (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) finished with 10 points.
The Rams will now face the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday, January 30th at 1:00 p.m. in Riverdale, N.Y. Farmingdale went into triple overtime with the Dolphins in the first meeting of the season, winning 98-96.
