Blakney, Miller Lead Rams Past Old Westbury

Old Westbury, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team improved to 12-0, 7-0 in the Skyline Conference, after an 89-75 win over Old Westbury. The Panthers dropped in 8-6 overall, 3-4 in conference play.

The Rams opened up a 10 point lead with 8:31 remaining in the first half on back-to-back layups by sophomore guard Shemique Hooks (Westbury, N.Y./Westbury). Old Westbury would cut the deficit to 32-30, only three minutes before halftime, on a three-point basket by freshman forward Abigail Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y./Frederick Douglass Academy). Farmingdale would close the half on a 10-0 run and go into the locker room with a 42-30 lead, their  largest of the game. Senior guard Kimberly Blakney (Brooklyn, N.Y./Benjamin Banneker) had 14 points and five rebounds in the first half, while senior guard Kamaya Miller (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood) scored 11 and had 10 rebounds for the Rams.

In the second half, Farmingdale extended the lead to 55-34 at the 15:40 mark. The Rams held a double-digit lead throughout the remainder of the game, improving to a perfect 12-0 on the season.

Blakney led Farmingdale with a team-high 28 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists and five blocked shots. Miller added 21 points, shooting 8-for-15 from the field and matched Blakney with 13 rebounds. Sophomore guard Kayla Koch (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) had 10 points, while senior guard Juanita Chappel (Brooklyn, N.Y./Grand Street Campus) had a game-high eight assists.

Freshman guard Krystina Agard (Queens, N.Y./August Martin) led all scorers with 30 points, shooting 56% from the floor for the Panthers. Junior guard Brittany Jones (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial) and freshman guard Daniella Santos (Inwood, N.Y./Lawrence) each scored in double-digits, while junior forward Shannon Gilly (Staten Island, N.Y./Curtis) had a team-best 10 rebounds.

Farmingdale State will host Mount Saint Mary with first place in the Skyline Conference at stake on Saturday, January 16th at 1:00 p.m.
