Rams Open 2010 with ECAC Holiday Festival Win

Orlando, Fla. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team won Bracket C of the 2010 ECAC Holiday Festival this weekend in Orlando, Florida. The Rams defeated Connecticut College on Saturday, before a 61-54 win over SUNYIT in the Championship game. Farmingdale State (8-0) was led by senior guard Kimberly Blakney (Brooklyn, N.Y./Benjamin Banneker), who was named the Tournament's Most Outstanding Player after her record setting performance.
In the Championship game, Farmingdale and SUNYIT went into halftime with the game deadlocked at 29. The Rams never trailed in the second half and went on to defeat SUNYIT 61-54.
Blakney averaged 28 points, 17.5 rebounds and seven steals for the tournament. In the win over SUNYIT, Blakney scored 32 points, recorded 19 rebounds, had seven steals and blocked two shots. She set the ECAC Holiday Festival tournament record for points (32) and rebounds (19) in a single game. Blakney is now second on the Farmingdale State College All-Time List for rebounds in a game, one behind Sharon Billips, who had 20 rebounds against Stevens in 2005.
Senior guard Kamaya Miller (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood) averaged 16 points and five rebounds, helping Farmingdale State improve to a perfect 8-0 on the season.
The Rams host Skyline Conference opponent NYU-Poly on Tuesday, January 5th at 8:00 p.m.
