Rams Selected Third in Women's Basketball Preseason Poll
Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team, which finished second in the Skyline Conference last season, has been selected to finish 3rd in the Skyline preseason poll. The Rams have advanced to the Skyline Conference Championship game the past six seasons.
Farmingdale State finished the 2008-09 season with an 18-10 overall record, including 14-4 in Skyline play, under head coach Chris Mooney. The Rams return the core of their team, graduating only one senior last season.
Senior Kimberly Blakney looks for continued success after being named Skyline Player of the Year, D3Hoops.com First Team, All-Met First Team and ECAC Second Team, leading the Nation in both scoring and steals, averaging 24.2 points per game and 5.7 steals per game last season. Blakney, who was named to the 2009-10 D3hoops.com Preseason All-America Team, had team-highs in rebounds (224), assists (89), blocks (62) and steals (153). She set a school record by scoring 49 points in a home win over St. Joseph’s and then bested that performance scoring 50 points at Mount Saint Vincent just nine days later.
Senior guards Tiffara Steward and Kamaya Miller return for their final season in charge of leading an offense that finished 3rd in the Skyline Conference with 71.6 points per game last season.
The Rams open up their season as they square off against York (N.Y.) in the New Paltz Hawk Invite on November 20th at 1:00 p.m.
