2008-09 Women's Basketball Season Recap
Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women’s basketball team finished the year with an overall record of 18-10, including 14-4 in the Skyline Conference. The Rams were defeated in the Skyline Conference Championship game by #1 seed Mount Saint Mary and then received a bid to the ECAC Playoffs. After defeating Brooklyn College in the First Round of the ECAC’s, Farmingdale’s successful season came to an end in the semifinals at the hands of Lehman College.
Junior Kimberly Blakney was named Skyline Player of the Year, D3Hoops.com First Team, All-Met First Team and ECAC Second Team, after leading the Nation in both scoring and steals, averaging 24.2 points per game and 5.7 steals per game. Blakney set a school record by scoring 49 points in a home win over St. Joseph’s and then bested that performance scoring 50 points at Mount Saint Vincent just nine days later. Blakney also led the team in blocked shots and rebounds.
Freshman Shemique Hooks averaged 14.8 points per game and 6.2 rebounds per game, while senior Gabrielle Green contributed 10.2 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. Tiffara Steward had another solid season from her point guard position. Steward averaged 6 ppg and finished the year with 63 steals, 40 assists and two blocks.
