Rams Advance to Finals for 6th Straight Season

#2 Farmingdale State - 83, #3 Mount Saint Vincent - 71

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team defeated Mount Saint Vincent tonight, 83-71, in the Skyline Semifinals and advance to the Finals for the sixth straight season. The Rams will face top-seed Mount Saint Mary College, marking the sixth consecutive time these two teams have met in the Championship game.

Farmingdale State jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead over the first four minutes played, followed by an 11-2 Dolphins run over a two minute span to make it 12-11 Rams. Farmingdale kept scoring to increase the lead back up to 12 points, 30-18, with 7:55 left to play in the first half, but Mount Saint Vincent kept chipping away and would eventually grab their first lead of the game with 1:30 remaining, 37-36, and went into the locker room leading 39-36.

The second half featured five lead changes and neither team led by more than five points, before a three-pointer by junior guard Kim Blakney (Brooklyn, N.Y./Benjamin Banneker) sparked the Rams, as they ran away with the 12 point victory and a chance at the Skyline Championship.

Blakney led for Farmingdale State with 29 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman forward Dominique Cunningham (Amityville, N.Y./Copiague) finished with 16 points (8-10) and grabbed six boards. Junior guard Kamaya Miller (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood) totaled 14 points and six assists. Junior guard Tiffara Steward (Elmont, N.Y./Sewanhaka) scored 13 points and five rebounds.

For Mount Saint Vincent, junior center Courtney Heeseman (New Hyde Park, N.Y./New Hyde Park) led with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman guard Jen Macanu (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) had 20 points and junior guard Lauren Percodani (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) had 15 points.

The Rams will face #1 Mount Saint Mary on Saturday, February 28th at 1:00 p.m.
