Blakney Picks Up Two More Weekly Awards

Basketball Player of the Week -
Farmingdale, N.Y. - Junior forward Kimberly
Blakney (Brooklyn, N.Y./Benjamin Banneker) picked up two more
weekly awards for her play during the week of February 16th -
February 22nd. She was named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week
and the Met Basketball Writer's Association (MBWA) Player of the
Week, to go along with her Skyline Player of the Week award.
Despite playing in just two of the team's three games, Blakney
averaged 37.5 points, 12 rebounds, seven steals, four blocks and 3
assists per game. Farmingdale (16-8, 14-4 Skyline) beat Yeshiva
70-35, then lost to Purchase 78-74 and Mt. St. Vincent 102-98. She
posted 25 points and nine rebounds against Purchase, before
exploding for a career-high 50-point performance against Mount
Saint Vincent. In that game, she added 15 rebounds and 10 steals,
marking the second triple-double of her career. She also blocked 5
shots and had 4 assists, and her 17 free throws made in that game
is a school record.
For the week, she shot 50% from the field, 46.7% from behind the
arc and 83 percent from the free throw line. She was also named the
Skyline Conference Player of the Week for the fourth time this
season. Farmingdale heads to the Skyline Conference tournament this
week as the second seed. They have a first round bye and will host
either Mount Saint Vincent or St. Joseph's on Thursday night at
6:00 p.m.
Blakney is the second player from Farmingdale State to be named to
the D3hoops.com Team of the Week this season. Four other players
among Division III women's basketball teams joined her on this
week's team, including LeighAnn Burke (DeSales), Jordan Osley
(Mount Mary), Kathleen Brown (Marymount), and Renee Brandenburg
(Bethany).
The MBWA Player of the Week is selected regardless of Division,
and names an Honor Roll for players who are not named the Player of
the Week but receive votes. Blakney was joined this week by Judie
Lomax (Columbia), Molly Tubridy (Dowling), Kelly Regan (Manhattan),
Christina Baxter (Mercy), Meredith Paggi (Mount Saint Mary),
Brittany Shields (Pace), Jennifer Danio (Purchase), Jennifer
DiChiara (Queens), and Erin Anthony (U.S. Military Academy).

It is selected by D3hoops.com staff from nominations by SIDs and
coaches.

PrestoSports/MBWA Weekly Player of the Week Award
Celebrating its fifth season, the Player of the Week Award is
granted on a weekly basis by the New York Area Metropolitan
Basketball Writers Association. Each week, each of the nearly 75
schools that play college basketball in the Tri-state area have the
ability to nominate one male and one female student-athlete, based
upon their on-court accomplishments over the previous seven days.
An esteemed panel of media members votes to select the winners from
the nominations. All players who receive votes, but are not named
the Player of the Week, are then named to the Honor Roll.
