Late Rally not Enough for Rams on Senior Night

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's
basketball team fell this evening on Senior Night to Purchase,
78-74. The Rams dropped to 16-7 overall, 12-3 in the Skyline, while
Purchase improved to 14-10, 9-8 in conference play. Shaquasha
Llopiz (Brooklyn, N.Y./Benajmin Banneker) played her last regular
season home game for the Rams.
Farmingdale State held a 37-31 lead, after two Kimberly Blakney
(Brooklyn, N.Y./Benjamin Banneker) free-throws with 4:33 remaining
in the first half. The Panthers responded with a 7-0 run over the
next three minutes, capped off by a Jennifer Danio (Staten Island,
N.Y./St. Peters) three-pointer. Purchase would take a 40-39 lead
into the locker room, scoring the last points of the half on a
Miranda Arthur-Smith (New York, N.Y./Churchhill School) jumper with
59 seconds remaining.
In the second, a jumper by Liila Mack (Monticello,
N.Y./Monticello) off the pass from Alyse LaPadula (New Rochelle,
N.Y./New Rochelle) would give Purchase a 67-53 lead, its largest of
the game with 8:18 remaining. Tiffara Steward (Elmont,
N.Y./Sewanhaka) answered with a three for the Rams, cutting the
deficit to 11. Farmingdale would go on a 14-0 run, to tie the game
at 67-67 with 5:13 left on the clock. A lay up by Blakney and a
free-throw by Kamaya Miller (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood) gave the Rams
a 72-69 advantage with 2:24 left to play. Mack would score the last
six points for the Panthers, giving them the 78-74 road
victory.
Farmingdale State was led by Blakney, who had 25 points, nine
rebounds, four steals and three blocks. Shemique Hooks (Westbury,
N.Y./Westbury) added 21 and five assits, while Miller had 15 points
and four steals. Dominique Cunningham (Amityville, N.Y./Copiague)
had a game-high 13 rebounds for the Rams.
Danio led all scorers with 26 points and grabbed nine boards for
Purchase, while Mack added 19 points and had a team-high 12
rebounds.
Farmingdale State will travel to Mount Saint Vincent for the last
Skyline Conference game of the regular season on Saturday, February
21st at 3:00 p.m.
