Blue Knights Take Home Win from Rams

Mount Saint Mary - 64, Farmingdale State - 40


Farmingdale, N.Y. - Increasing their win streak to 12 games, the visiting Mount Saint Mary College women's basketball team (16-4, 13-0) took a 64-40 conference win from the Rams today in Farmingdale, N.Y. The loss broke Farmingdale State's seven-game win streak and they now stand at 14-5, 12-2 in Skyline play.

Farmingdale jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead early in the first half, but the Blue Knights cut the lead to one with 13:18 left to play and then used a 10-0 run over the next four minutes to take the 21-10 lead. Three minutes later, Mount Saint Mary went on another 10-0 run, holding a 33-15 advantage with 2:35 left to play in the first half. They would go into the lockerroom with the score 35-19.

In the second, the Rams cut the deficit to nine points, 39-30, but struggled shooting and the Blue Knights ran away with the 64-40 victory.

Junior guard Kimberly Blakney (Brooklyn, N.Y./Benjamin Banneker) led for Farmingdale with 14 points, four blocks and four steals. Junior forward Gabby Green (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) finished with nine rebounds and seven points. Junior guard Tiffara Steward (Elmont, N.Y./Sewanhaka) totaled six points, three steals and two blocks.

For Mount Saint Mary, Jess Tice grabbed a game-high 18 rebounds, along with scoring 10 points and two blocked shots. Meredith Paggi had 14 points and Chrissy Zrowka tallied eight assists.

The Rams now host St. Joseph's on Thursday, February 12th. The Rams will be participating in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's Pink Zone Week, along with 1,200 other colleges around the country, joining in the fight against breast cancer. All proceeds raised from this game will benefit the late Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund. Kay Yow, a legendary basketball coach from NC State, lost her battle to breast cancer on January 24th, 2009.

The game starts at 6:00 p.m., followed by the men's game at 8:00 p.m. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game, or t-shirts are available to purchase for $10. The Athletic Department is asking for a $2 donation at the door. Raffle prizes will be available from Starbucks, Chili's, Houlihan's, Dave & Buster's, Changing Times Pub, and more.
